The method and tools don’t matter to me, the position does. My last fit was with Cadence in Philly in 2009. It was disappointing in that it lasted 45 minutes and delivered no new information. Ironically, they didn’t change the fit I’d already done for myself. So…money spent to confirm that I knew what I was doing? I still feel like I can get a better fit. I’m fairly low, decently fast, but I think they are some details that I just can’t discover by myself. Ideally, I’d like the locations of contact points that put me into that position. I can build from there. Someone who knows what’s available and doesn’t have a one size fits all mentality. (I think it’s rarer than I realized. Fro example, I love my old Vision straight bars. I have no armrest stack and think it feels great. A lot of guys dismiss the straight bars right away for a newer ski bend, even the slower UCI-legal ones.)
We have a Retul fitter at the Peddler in Long Branch nearby, but I don’t want to spend time or money anywhere if I don’t have some great recommendations. I know Kathy at Brielle does a nice fit, but I’d really like the takeaway info that I can translate into geometry. I’m not sure they offer that.
Long story short, I think I’ve gotten all I can out of my Argon 18 frame. It’s done really well by me. But if I’m going for a new frame, I want to make sure the position AND bike improve, not just one or the other. Anyone have some info?
