I’m having problems finding Dura Ace 9 speed bar end shifters and a 9-speed derailluer from the same place (I don’t want the 10-speed), and was wondering if anyone new of a bike shop that might have both. I would also be interested in used parts if they are in great condition. Post here and I’ll get back to you.

You may struggle trying to find either new.
The bar end shifters seem to be in high demand, my LBS told me last week that Shimano is out 2-3 months when I thought I’d broken my shifters.
I haven’t seen any 9sp stuff anywhere. The RD doesn’t care how many speeds, it will shift 8, 9 or 10.
Try Ebay but good luck on price. The 9 sp DA gear is in high demand and the prices reflect that.

Thanks for the info - you confirm what I had been suspecting. No 9-speed bar ends on ebay, although I might just get the 10-speed bar ends and a 9 speed derailleur/cassette. I’d go with the 10-speed, but it’s criminal for shimano to charge nearly $180 for a new cassette. When I upgrade to a 10 speed, I’m dumping all my shimano for campy, including wheels. Enough is enough.

Nope. Many of Shimano’s RDs do indeed care how many speeds. There are some cross compatibility options, but they are not unlimited. Consult Shimano’s drivetrain catalog or other literature to get the full scoop on this. For example, the 9-speed drivetrain parts all fairly cross compatible (DA, Ultegra, and 105), but this was definitely not the case for 8 speed DA and Ultegra deraillers and shifters (different amounts of cable pull and different rear derailleur sensitiviy).
