Looking for coaching suggestions

I am currently in the market for a new coach. I have used online coaching in the past and have currently been using a local coach. My problem is that, despite repeated requests to work within my available hours, neither seems to understand that when I say I have an hour to work out, that translates into 60 minutes…period. Not a 20 minute warmup and a 60 minute main session etc.

My specific needs are someone who will be able to fit workouts into MY schedule (which is limited by my job) and who particularly has experience in training people with limited time availability.

Thanks in Advance

Hi there,

I have some friends that started up an online coaching business out in California. Check out their website at:

http://www.counterpartcoaching.com/

There are some good articles available right on the front page.

Here is a listing of online coaches:

Good luck,

It’s not all Doom and Gloom Doc.

I have started coaching- i am an accredited Level 1 triathlon coach in Australia. I understand the needs of athletes with limited time. What distance are you looking at competing in. I specialise in Olympic and sprint distance.

At this stage i am still putting together a web site. if you like i can give you a free online program for 6 weeks. After that i charge $A45 (Approx $US 34).

I think you will agree that this is a cheap price. This is because i am still building my bussiness. This price is fixed for 12 months. You can check my listing at www.trivic.org.au

Lance,

My coach, Jay Crooker at www.ironcoach.com is terrific about working within whatever limitations I have. We speak at least once a week and he always asks me to keep him updated on what my availability is. If I see I only have an hour to do something, he gives me something to fit perfect within that hour.

Jay is awesome about working with me one on one. We talk about everything from what I’m eating to how my energy is to how much time I have. He even takes into account if my work load gets heavier at work, he knows the stress that can have and he’ll be very clear with me about what to schedule and what to be on the lookout for.

Just my two cents but check him out if you get a chance.

I have been with cts(carmichael training systems) for just over 1 yr and have been very happy. This program has helped me achieve some major goals this last year. They have several levels you can chose from and one of the questions when you start is how much time do you have/wk. I would recommend the proformance level any thing below that will probably be pretty much cookie cutter type program. I have friends with this level and some are very happy and some not so happy. Myself I am doing the expert level and a very happy where the proformance level you may get multiple coaches with expert you are assigneda coach and you talk probable atleast 1/wk mine wants to talk 2/wk and any other time I have questions. Apparently the athelete load for expert level is in the range of 10 where below that it is much higher with less experience. My coach is a pro/elite triathlete and is ceritfied in multiple areas and is willing to modify my workouts at any time. The levels above expert are elite and pro and are very expensive. The Aussie sounds like he could help you also. Take a look at the CTS website(trainright.com) and see what you think.

good luck

I have been using Michael McCormack for a while now and have been very happy. He believes in Less equals More, Quality versus Quantity. Check out his training principles. Most of his bike workouts are centered around using an indoor trainer, preferably a Computrainer, for short focused workouts. I ride my CT twice a week in the morning, and can get most workouts done in an hour, and that’s with a 20 minute warmup.

I’ve used Mike Plumb for over a year as my coach. It was stated above perfectly - coaching is more than getting my workout alone. While I may annoy Mike with all my questions, he’s become a HUGELY important part of my regular routine in life.

He has lots of clients (some here on this message board I think), but I always feel like his most important client.

$75 a month (the least expensive, except for the $34 above), weekly workouts, unlimited email access

Most running workouts are around 1 hour. 95% of Windtrainer workouts are 60-65 minutes, swim workouts (adjusted slightly) are 55-60 minutes.

The only workouts longer than 60 minutes for the most part are the long, easy days on the weekend.

Feel free to email me directly at mpalios@mailer.fsu.edu if you have any questions. I’d be happy to give you more info!

I appreciate the responses of all who replied. Several good leads and hopefully I can find someone who can work around my weird work schedule.

Thanks again
