Awhile back I posted a question about how to stop the constant creaking coming from my look pedals and red cleats. I tried new cleats, different shoes, various lubricants, and some gave a little temporary relief but were not very satisfactory.
Then I asked my wife if her Look cleats ever squeeked and she said never. So I decided to check them and noiced that the little black rubber inserts had been removed from the cleat. I started thinking and realized that the cleats on her shoes had been put on at Tom Demerley’s shop,(of course) and whoever set her up probably had seen a million squeaky cleats and just removed the rubber part when mounting a new cleat.
I tried this on mine and took a 30 mile ride this afternoon and my cleats were perfectly silent. Hopefully this is the final answer to the mystery noise.
