LOOK 596 Pedal Removal

Okay, no laughing. This question seems dumb, but it’s not as simple as it should be. I’m hoping someone out there has dealt with this already.

On the one piece LOOK cranks that are standard on the 596, how do you remove the pedals? I have used a hex wrench to remove the “cap” on the inside of the crank arm, but the pedal and the little “170, 172.5, 175” insert do not want to come out of the crank. Do you have to “punch” it out from the inside or is there a more graceful way to do this w/o risking ruining the threads?

You are not the first one !

Allen key, and a long lever is your only option. Make sure you are turning the right way. I use a 6mm 3/8 drive socket on a breaker bar…saves time. Also, keep the chain on the large ring…just in case you slip. The medical bills will cost way less if you slip with the chain in the big ring.

Duh!! Thanks. I guess I should have gone through the little bag of bits they send with the bike before asking the question. That’s what happens when you post from work. In any event, I got it now so thanks for setting me straight.

Wow, you guys are quick. By the time I took a picture of the tool and uploaded it to my computer, you already had him sorted out. Nice!
