Did longest ride ever 92 miles today and used my disc . It was awesome. Up till now longest ride was around 50 something. Got that lil focker up to speed and I was averaging pretty good while not pushing it to hard going a lil over 18 1/2 mph then my rear tire flattened . I thought I remembered a bike shop about 1/4 mile away but was wrong so that screwed my average a little by walking bike. Fixed flat made to shore had two slices of pizza and cup of coffee and headed back. Looked like with the wind I would beat my time up. Not ! Around 60 miles legs gave out on the rolling hills and I was lucky to hit 22 on down roll. Actually went down to 12 mph on some. My top speed was around 28 mph on a straight . Any hints I did try to concentrate on form but by mile 70-75 that was out. I had a average HR 146 and max of 165 bpm. One segment on ride start showed a spike of 228 bpm.
Found a nice magnet lock on ride when I flattened worth about 20.00 LOL
For what its worth there was a lot of stop and go with traffic lights and stop signs along with people not paying attention. I live in Jersey go figure.
do it again next week
and again the week after
you will get better =)
.
you mentioned pizza and coffee…
what else did you take in? Any water, gels, sports drink?
Congrats on the distance. I felt the same last year when i turned a 40 miler into a 60, and held a much higher speed than expected (because I wasn’t planning on going so far).
Great story this is pretty much a ritual for most of us coming into spring training I am not looking forward to my first century this year but by summer I will be doing back to back centuries on the weekend.
Keep working at it and it will get easier. Using a disc in training, pure badass I have done that on some PR type training days, gives the kids something cool to look at .
Happy Training

I did have my aero bottle filled with water, a extra bottle in the back also had a banana and sport jelly beans. Want to do again next week different part of shore though. Went to Belmar this time. Think I might hit Seaside heights 5 miles farther each way or long beach Island. Which is 62 miles each way. Disc must have looked cool with the hypnotic spiral on it. Well at least to a few kids at the stop lights. I have come to find out what we think (cyclist) looks cool others (non bikers) think is gay. I should have had another bottle filled with a sports drink. Turns out the lock(with key in it.) that i found is for a trailer hitch reciever and cost about 13-15 new. LOL
