Long Island to Boston...Help me plan a route

A friend of mine and I are thinking about riding from the north shore of Long Island up to Boston and then taking the bus back to NYC. It would be a quick trip. Leave Saturday morning and be back late Sunday night. I went to school in Boston so the point of the trip is to get on my bike and just ride. I’ve never done anything like this but he just rode from Long Island to San Fran this summer and from NYC to Montreal a few years ago.

Our plan is to ride to the Cross Sound ferry and take it to New London then ride another 20ish miles and stop over Saturday night. That should leave us with 80-90 miles left on Sunday to get to Boston.

Anybody done this before? Anyone live in this area and can help with a route? Here’s what I have so far…I’m open to suggestions.
