Having foolishly entered IM Germany as my first Iron event, just wondered how often I should be riding and running distance?I’m trying to ride 130km+ every week.Is this too much?I read an interesting article on marathon running that said if you run 20 miles you don’t need to run long again for another 2-3 weeks.Any thoughts?
I’ve done only 4 IMs so far, so I’m not exactly an expert, but if I were you I would check Gordo’s website http://www.byrn.org/ . You’ll find plenty of useful information from training, to nutrition, to race strategy.
As far as 130km a week being too much or not, it all depends on your fitness level, your expectations and your experience. I have an IM in about 3 months and I’m yet to ride that much because I don’t wanna peak too early, but that’s just me.
As far as running, it’s about the same story. It depends how long you’ve been running for, if you’ve already run a few marathons, etc… I agree that you should have a really long run (28 to 34 km) just once every 3/4 weeks, but I assume that you’ll be running at least 30/40km each week regardless of your long run.
