Long course Duathlon nationals?

Anyone know when and where? Thanks

August 14 in Ohio and I think HFP racing is putting it on. It’s called the Great Buckeye Challenge and is tied in with a half-iron tri. First run is a 5 miler I think.

August 21st, Ceasar’s Creek, Ohio. www.hfpracing.com Same promoter as SC. I watched your race at SC nationals. Good job. LC Nationals are the same day as Zofingen this year.

Go to www.hfpracing.com and click on the Great Buckeye Challenge link, at least try to…the link isn’t working right now…but that is the long course nationals race this year.

The race is August 21st. Location is Waynesville, OH (or just down the road from Mason)

Congrats on your results at SC Nats. I was forced to skip them at the last moment by family priorities…too bad…I was looking to challenge for the 35-39 AG… Anyway…I’ll be at long course Nats…see you there.

So which race are you doing, John? Zofingen or LC? How much will that date thin the LC field (not much, I hope, but its usually the faster folks that do Zofingen…)

Hey, Brian. Too bad you missed SC. Good luck at LC; I’ll be at Zofingen. Hope to see you at Harriman, October 16th. BTW, there’s a Zofingen distance event in Quebec on July 8th. It’s a flat, many multiple loop course, but should be a nice training day. www.triathlon-levis.com

When do you expect to have a website up for the Harriman race? When will reg start? Is it a definite go yet? The reason I’m asking is that I need to decide my October focus…and the Marine Corps will be (is already?) soliciting applications for its marathon team for the MC maraton soon…I’d prefer the duathlon…

Brian - looks like we were typing simultaneously. I don’t think Zofingen will thin LC Nationals at all, except for myself. Buckeye is a great race. Don’t let HFP fool you. The bike course is NOT fast. Even the tri winner last year, Chris Legh, said so at the award ceremony. It’s tough. Definitely preview it. And, don’t wear shoes that can pick up pebbles in the soles. The run course has a lot of gravel and I had a small stone wedged in my sole which bruised the heck out of my foot. The 5.5M / 56M / 13.1M makes a nice 3:1 bike:run ration. Good luck. JM

The race is piggy backing on the velodrome’s website. www.hudsonvalleyvelodrome.com I’m finalizing a proposal to the Harriman park manager but discussions with him have been positive. The country’s most experienced race director, Dan Honig of www.nytc.org is advising me and I see no reason why this race won’t happen. The velodrome will put up the necessary cash so only lack of permits would stop it and that doesn’t look to be a problem. I plan on racing it. Be well.

Sounds like I’ve got the perfect 20 mile loop for my long ride main sets, then…there isn’t hardly a piece of flat ground on it…you are either going up or coming down…(Quantico, VA, Marine Corps base road)

Thanks for the heads up on the shoes…

Thankyou everyone for the info. I’m going to try and race these for sure.

Pete:

The Great Buckeye is age group long course nationals. I am not sure what race is pro long course nationals. Contact Eric Schwartz for that info. As a Pro you can still do this race but they will take you out of the scoring. I think last years overall winner Mark B. turned pro this year and did the pro race in ohio. So he might also do the race again.

Powerman Alabama was Pro Long Course Du Nats for 2004 & 2005. The Buckeye is AG Long Course Du Nats.
