London Mayor Ken Livingston, super lefty, totally gets it

I never, ever thought I would agree with anything this guy would ever say. Can we make this guy an American somehow? Why can’t we get far left wingers who say things like this:

London Mayor Ken Livingstone said: “I want to say one thing, specifically to the world today — this was not a terrorist attack against the mighty and the powerful, it was not aimed at presidents or prime ministers, it was aimed at ordinary, working-class Londoners, black and white, Muslim and Christian … young and old … that isn’t an ideology, it isn’t even a perverted fate, it is an indiscriminate attempt at mass murder.”

“They seek to divide London, they seek Londoners to turn against each other … this city of London is the greatest in the world because everybody lives side by side in harmony. Londoners will not be divided by this cowardly attack.”

Livingstone also had words specifically for the terrorists: “I know that you personally do not fear to give your own life in exchange to taking others … but I know you do fear you may fail in your long-term objective to destroy our free society … in the days that follow, look at our airports, look at our seaports and look at our railway stations … you will see that people from the rest of Britain, people from around the world, will arrive in London to become Londoners, to fulfill their dream and achieve their potential … whatever you do, however many you kill, you will fail.”

This guy just totally gets it.

Oh yeah, he’s a real genius. I bet he likes motherhood and apple pie, too.

I don’t know about motherhood, but he hates America and absolutely despises Bush.

Why can’t we get an opposition like this in this country?

Yeah he gets it. Hes an outspoken critic of the war in Iraq.

I’m not following you, Art. What part of what he said do suppose would be unacceptable to the American left?

All of it.

Yeah, I remember all that cheering from the Left when the towers fell. The Left in America, they *love *terrorism.

I don’t know how you have time to do anything in your life since you seem fully occupied with putting words into the mouth of “the left”.

OK, let’s see a show of hands from all of us American lefties: who disagrees with the good Mayor’s words to the terrorists? Anyone, anyone? Buehler? I’m an American lefty and, unless I read his words too quickly, I agree with him in full.

Hate to say it but “Red” Ken is right. Hopefully we can learn something from his and Londoners and the next time the terroists hit the US we go on with our lives. No reason to shut down the transportation system and financial markets. I was sent home from work on 9/11 and I live in Cincinnati.

I agree with Ken, I even voted for the guy once, a loooooong time ago.

Standard claptrap from the right…all progressives/liberals/lefties pick your label are apologists for the killers and they America too.

“War is Peace. Freedom is Slavery. Ignorance is Strength.” And to be against the war means you’re for the terrorists.

No, but I do remember the Michael Moores of the world talking about how we brought it on ourselves and deserved it.

If the left would manage to nominate a presidential candidate that can stike a tone like this consistently, that person would probably win.

I remember one similar statement from John Kerry one time.

Hillary is probably the only smart enough to figure this out, but that is another thread.

If you like him, how about this guy?

It is with enormous distress that France has just learned of the monstrous attacks—there is no other word for it—that have just struck the United States of America. In these horrifying circumstances, the entire people of France, and I want to emphasize this, stand by the people of America. They express their friendship and solidarity in this tragedy. Naturally, I want to assure President Bush of my total support. France, as you know, has always condemned and unreservedly condemns terrorism, and considers that terrorism must be combated by all possible means.
French President Jacques Chirac, September 11, 2001

A tone like what???

Terrorism is evil and cowardly???

yeah, the left just can’t “out evil” the right on the terrorism issue.

To paraphrase Bill Hicks,

I, ah…this terrorism issue in the States is dividing the country right in half. You know, and even amongst my friends - we’re all highly intelligent - they’re totally divided on the issue of terrorism. Totally divided. Some of my friends think these terrorist people are just evil fucks. Other of my friends think these terrorist people are evil cowards. How are we gonna have a consensus? I’m torn. I try and take the broad view and think of them as evil, cowardly fucks.

I am surprised by the reaction to my comments about Livingston.

If I am so wrong, why hasn’t anyone responded with quotes from the past couple of years from Pelosi, Reid, Kennendy or any the other leaders on the other side with similar sentiments.

Chirac’s statement doesn’t come close. Sure, he was really sorry and felt our pain, but offered nothing and rallied no one.

Are you guys reading the same statment? He is speaking to the terrorists and promising to fight them and defeat them no matter how long it takes and no matter what the price.

I am guessing having a family that went through Germany’s daily bombing of London leaves a permanent impression.

He is speaking to the terrorists and promising to fight them and defeat them no matter how long it takes and no matter what the price.
???

What think ye now?

I like this part best.

"KEN Livingstone, the mayor of London, offered his support to protesters preparing to demonstrate against George Bush’s three-day state visit - but urged them to remain peaceful.

Speaking a few hours before Air Force One, the president of the United States’ jet, touched down on British soil last night, Mr Livingstone told protesters: “You have the moral high ground. You are protesting against an illegal war and occupation - and the world will be watching you.”

I think the same thing.

I don’t have a problem with his dislike of Bush or the Iraq war. The guy understands what terrorism is all about, will not be bullied, and won’t back down.

He disagrees with our approach, but not our goal. He supports peaceful protest. He gets it.

So what do you think of his support for Sinn Fein, his demands for the British withdrawal from Northern Ireland and his talks with the IRA…all while they were planting bombs in London?

Sorry, I just don’t know so much about him, but that list doesn’t surprise me.

I just like the backbone he showed when his city was attacked. He gets it.

Aren’t I allowed to compliment and agree with one person on the left once in a while?
