One of my good family friends used to do something like this, but instead of going for third, he was way BOP. He liked to travel, so he’d just sign up for the marathon, go see the city, run the first two miles, find a nice restaurant to go eat and relax in, drink with some friends, then cross the line many hours later. Never really understood why anyone would sign up for a race with the intent of just taking a huge shortcut, but I guess the difference is my friend never called himself a marathon finisher after doing this, and he was basically coming in last so he wasn’t really defrauding anyone…
This is brilliant. RD’s should consider another category - “Race, Wine and Dine.” Let those participants start the race, then about a mile or so in direct them to a food/beer tent and then, as the cut-off approaches, allow them all to cross the finish line. If you’re too drunk to cross the line, no finishers medal. I’d be on that like stink on a monkey if the food was good.
This was nowhere near london.
He did well to get the bus and still come in 3rd ![]()
