It appears that one of those arrested is a Jordanian trained Junior doctor (the equivalent of a resident in the US) who’s only been here 2 years, the have not said what nationality he is. He has a wife, also arrested, and a baby son, probably not arrested, dont know about that.
Interesting if this bunch of clowns turn out to be recent immigrants with no ties to the UK.
If this turned out to be the case, it would suggest we have a more pressing immigration problem, not helped by open borders with europe, but that the approach has changed from 7/7 were they were all British nationals.
We were sitting in the local debating venue last night (the pub) and IF and its a big IF these clowns do turn out to be foreigners, as in not born and bred UK muslims then I think that this should be considered a change in tack from 7/7.
7/7 were our own nutters, born and bred, but if these turn out to be an imported brand, then I think this would have parallels to 9/11 in the sense that they appear to have come here specifically to do something like this.
I hope you are right about their being foreigners. Home grown terrorists are scary. Defending against them without damaging civil rights is a real problem. How can you strike a balance?
Presumably, AQ would use home grown if they could. If they can’t recruit such killers, that is encouraging.
The reports are also that two of those arrested are doctors, working for the national health system. That is scary too. Seems they could kill a lot more people from that position if actually killing people were the goal. Of course, the real goal is striking terror. Killing people without the headlines doesn’t address that agenda.
As a national health worker I think if they worked in a hospital they could only really kill them one at a time.
That said, the bastard that caught on fire is now being treated on the NHS, not just that, we actually provide translators in the event that english is not your first language. They should really have banged him up with his mate the doctor and let him take care of it!
It is encouraging though that at least the information to date says they are foreigners which means we MIGHT be doing something right if they cant find enough disenfranchised people here to do it themselves.
The other thing that slightly bothers me about this is how messed up do you have to be to spend 4 years of undergrad, a further 5 years of post grad med school and then at least a further 2 years in a hospital as a junior to end up participating in this. Was he planning to participate in this all along, if so thats an awful lot of commitment to having a cover.
