Does anyone have suggestions for that? Most places require 4-5 nights, I called the visitors bureau today and they said that there is nothing for 1-2 nights within 45 minutes… I thought maybe someone would know a private B&B or something… I was told about the dorms, but my mom is not excited about sharing a bathroom with 3 others rooms… See, they are driving from Montreal so no need for them to stay that long… I have my own room at the holiday Inn, but we are talking 7-8 extra peoples to fit in…
They could stay in Saranac, but that too is likely sold out. If they are driving from Montreal, just get them to stay in Plattsburgh. It is less than a 60 min drive.
That’s a good idea… That way they won’t have to worry about customs the morning of… I will look into it. Thanks!
Have you tried Saranac Lake? There are some hotels there that might accomodate you, and it’s about a 20-minute drive outside LP. It’s a reasonable commute – my folks stayed there a couple of years ago when I raced at IMUSA.
I have to think that at this point, the only thing you’ll find in LP are either the week-long rentals or something that’s not seen much TLC since the Soviet hockey team left town in disgrace.
Good luck!
Here is the number for the Chamber of Commerce in Saranac Lake — 800-347-1992
(Amy was very helpful and can provide names and numbers of hotels in the area)
FYI I called 3 places and got the last room for 3-nights at one and the other 2 were already booked. Others have a 4-night minimum. One night may be difficult, but I wish you luck.

I figured out there was only a $500-$700 difference between doing Lake Placid with a 5-7 day stay and doing Ironman Malaysia, including flight and accomodations.
Which would you rather say you did? IMLP or Ironman Malaysia? Man, I’d take Malaysia any day and maybe a side trip through Kuala Lumpur and a trip to the top of the Petronas Towers. That blows LP away…
Yeah maybe you are right. But I would never get the family to go to maylasia or pretty much anywhere further than lake placid. i really like having them there… I can’t imagine going to maylasia by myself and racing being jet lagged! I’d go visit though:) About the rooms, I think the Plattsburg idea might be the best one. It is tough…
I camp in tupper Lake for $10. A night. It’s a great bike ride to IMLP.
