I’m about to put money down on a lake side cabin to stay with the wife and kids for IMLP. The problem is that the contract calls for a deposit of 1/2 of the amount, which is forfeited if you cancel for any reason at any time. I’ve rented places in the past, although not in Lake Placid, that would allow you to get out and get your deposit back as long as you provided some notice. I know its a long shot, but I have my fingers crossed for a Kona lottery slot.
Is this a normal contract provision? Also, does anyone have any suggestions on other lodging options around Lake Placid.
If you haven’t talked with this outfit, you might give them a call. They have several types of properties, and the deposits are refundable with advance notice (60 days, I think) less a small charge- less than $100 as I recall.
I love LP as a town and the people are amazing, yet this “deal” sounds a little off. Check a few other places first. KOA has cabins/lodges just outside town. Also check in Saranac Lake which is only about 5 mi away. Don’t feel too rushed. I qualified for LP last year and only knew that I was going in late June yet I still found an amazing place to stay. Thanks to some new friends at BTT!
Call Lake Placid visitors info/Chamber of Commerce if you’re really stuck.
I’m guessing that you’re in Mass. by your name, so talk to Boston Triathlon Team and see if they can help you out. They rent a big lodge right downtown every year, but if you’re looking to put up your whole family, that’s different.
