Local Coach replies & lies about speeling ;)

Thanks for all the discussion on me! I had no idea some of you cared so much - first, I did win overall. . . . . but listen closely here (you too nameless former lobo tri, as me thinks you only asked me a question to talk about yourself - yes, I heard you say you qualified for Boston, but I had to meet someone for a swim so I couldn’t hang around and chat.)

  • I WON 1st overall of tri-nutcases who raced back-to-back triathlons Sat & Sun for lowest combined time in 1/2 IM Sat, and XTERRA Sunday in AZ. Nice pic. frame, says the same thing on it if anyone wants to see it - call me, I’ll arrange a tour of my house where it sits on my coffee table. 7:38 for both, gonna call that one 7 hours and change for 1/2 IM & Xterra - it that’s ok. . . if not, I probably will anyway  . . and speaking of times. .

My 10 hour IM - here’s my two cents (which I’m told is worth less than one) - my opinion is you run a 21:59:99 5k, you ran a 21. Just say “high 21”, but say ‘high’ very quietly ;)) - is that wrong? - Why not - It’s a game folks, enjoy!!! I’m am enjoying writing this message as I go, maybe I should be more serious. . . hmmm. . . nope, ain’t gonna happen.
Maybe we can use math rules. . in IM 10:29:59:99 rounds down to 10 hour IM, 10:30:00:00 rounds up to 11? - ummmmm. . .don’t really care so I think I’ll leave that discussion to all of you - but it is good to see so much interest in my performances thru the years -thanks for going back 6 or 7 years to find that that 10:55, or 58, . . .or 10:35 as I used to remember it - (The older I get, the faster I was;))

By the way. . . This weekend, I will try go 4:59:59:99 in BSL 1/2 IM (always my goal) - What will I call that time?? - check my website someday soon to find out . . .

My first post here - someone sent me a heads up I was getting trashed . . No worries, but there won’t be too many more from me - we’re just too busy doing to talk much about it. . . and thanks for an entertaining discussion. Gotta go now, edit my times in my Polar from Tues track workouts. . . (is a 74 a 70 or 75?)

Happy training, play the game of triathlon well!
Nameless ‘no speel check’ (MM of TSF) Coach

PS - oh oh, having too much fun to shut up - last bit o’ wisdom from me today. . ‘what do you call last place finisher in a triathlon?’. . . “a triathlete”
Now go hug yourselves over that feel good of the day, and thank whomever we can all run, bike & swim - wait, I got the order wrong. . .bike-run-swim. . wait, not right. … . yeah, this is silly of me, isn’t it - get it?

The first time I won my age group, I walked around with my chest puffed out for a little while, until my girlfriend pointed out that I wasn’t getting paid to do it and who cares about AG winners over 50 anyway. And my teenagers interrupted to ask when we were leaving for the movies. For a different perspective, read the Jim McCann post. If that doesn’t put things into focus, you’re a lost cause…

I did an Olympic distance tri in 1 hour

.

Thanks for posting. Yep, always two sides of the story.

But I never did get an answer to my questions about who technically should really care.

It is always interesting when you get to root cause on this stuff. Unless a person has good communication
skills and asks back is this what I heard and what I thought it meant, most times folks are really NOT
communicating with each other.

Congrads on your overall win!!

Dave

Thanks for posting your side of the story and welcome to slowtwitch.

That kind of thinking is pretty dishonest. Sure, as you say, it’s just a game. Frankly I don’t think any of us really care what your IM time was. But let’s call your claim (that you did a 10 hour IM when your time was really a 10 fifty-something) what it is: a lie. You didn’t hurt anyone else other than yourself. But you may want to refrain from that kind of puffery in the future if you want to have the respect of the people you coach (or hope to coach). Integrity is pretty high on the list of qualities every good coach should have.

Is this the guy I beat by 5 min in CaIM? (you went 11:01, if had checked which I didn’t cause it doens’t matter but I am sorry, and I will not lie anymore)
“Hello, My name is Mark, I am an IM finisher of a time under 17:00:00:00.”

And I got a rolldown slot from 2nd to 3rd in AZ to ITU Long Course Worlds in France (factual, but new puffery)

Hugs,
MM

So I guess Roger Bannister was the first human ever to run a 3-minute mile?

No, I didn’t do that race. So I criticize your lie and you assume that I was a competitor that got beat by you? So is that the way your mind works? Whenever someone calls you on your bullshit, you assume they do it as some kind of retaliation and it has nothing to do with the fact that you’re spewing bullshit?

Wow, just wow.

If that’s what Roger want’s to say, I’m ok with it.

But don’t take my word for it. . . . . Lettermans’ top 3 List**

1.)If you say so

2.)Damn thats fast . .

3.)Who?*

*first runner to go sub-4 in the mile in a sanctioned track meet - if I remember correctly. . .
** ok, I wrote the list myself, damn this lying. . I can’t stop!!! (wait, if I do stop, is that a lie?)

aw shucks, I was jus’ playin - I’m sorry I offended you.

(now - you decide - am i telling the truth, or not

When you are in a hole, the best thing to do is stop digging.

Put down the shovel already.

The second I read the OP trashing the coach, I thought to myself…

There will be about 3-5 people respond agreeing with the OP saying this guy is a moron.
Then there will be a couple of brave people that present the other side or defend the person (usually h20 ;-P)
These two groups will go back and forth for a couple of pages.
Next the individual being trashed will appear defending themselves with a wity argument.
The two groups (with additional company) will continue back and forth for a few more pages (in new or original post).
The argument will die down in due time.

And then I came back from my swim…

And to preface one thing…

I am NOT fabricating this I swear I thought all of this (except the h2o part

Good call, except you were wrong about the “witty argument” part.

Darn, I really wanted to be known as brave.

Dave

joonya - I think you deserve a donation for the MS-150 ride on that call of ‘the way we were’. . .shoulda gone swimming w/you . .

I have learned many things . . .

Feltgood (sp?), happy trails & training, I think you & I are long lost brothers - did you feel a kinship? - the post you pulled off about us coaching Maria (Elite runner) - yep, it was true, we coached her, but now we do not. When we did, we had a ‘congrats’ line w/her top 5 in R & R marathon on the website w/her name & coached by us. But I think it was funnier when you wrote it  And remember, you get faster resting/recovery, after your hard running.

Adam, thanks for the kudos - next time you ask me how I did I will know not to speak, and listen to how you did. And I will try to get it right

Me - I have been accused of many things in my life, but witty. . hmmmm. . . that would be stretch. I will tell you I can pick up heavy things;)
– to much time arguing politics & religion for me, this was fun but time for me to run - can you who agree defend me against you who don’t? (Maybe I can round down coaching fees for you;)))
Enjoy life w/sport!
Mark

“first time I won my age group, I walked around with my chest puffed out for a little while, until my girlfriend pointed out that I wasn’t getting paid to do it and who cares about AG winners over 50 anyway”

I hear you Bro. We must be dating the same gal. After hearing those comments that’s when I quickly put my baggy shorts on over my speedo. Podiumed but never won until I moved up an AG last year, but did win it twice in a season. Traditionally I could have a fastest AG bike split but would blow it on the run. Last year all the other old farts with running backgrounds were suffering from chronic running injuries and I could hold them off.

Welcome to the forums coach.

I think the whole accusation thread was stupid. Ultimately it’s just a sport, and if it makes them feel better to lie about their performance, let them be. It doesn’t change the facts. No need to rage over the internet about it. (For the record: I don’t think you lied, just twisted the truth.)

HOWEVER, just reading your posts, I will say my first impression is that you’re very weird, and don’t really have a grasp of fluid, coherent english.

I’ve done a sprint in 0 hrs.

I’ve done a 25m TT in 0 hrs too!

Awesome, I’m going to have to revise all my PBs now…
