Little Question - What's the right thing to do?

So here’s my dilemma - I think I know the answer, just a bit peeved about the process:

I’m doing a tri in late August - and signed up for it a long while ago. The problem is this: When I signed up for the tri, I weighed about 210 pounds, and thought, “Why NOT enter as a clydesdale?”. Well, I now weight about 190 - and clearly don’t qualify.

I’d like to update my registration - because it’s just not fair to those that do weigh over 200 - but the organizers want to charge me a fee to do so.

I THINK that I’ll have to weigh in at registration, or at least the day of - so maybe they’ll jut move me to age group then, but I’m not sure. I don’t really feel that it’s fair to charge me, but I want to be honest -

Any thoughts?

How much of a fee?

I think that’s a bit ridiculous that they want to charge you. I wouldn’t pay it. All they have to do is move you to a new list. I would just take care of it the morning of the race (or whenever you pick up your registration stuff).

You know, it’s only $25 bucks - but I’m more a question of the principal - It’s not cheap to enter these things as it is - then to nickel and dime you - simply b/c I want to be fair and honest - seems silly - especially because of a small thing like this - I didn’t EXPECT to be 20 pounds lighter -

I’ll probably take care of it at packet pickup - I can’t imagine it would be that big of a deal - I’d just rather not have to deal with it, tho!

Pay the $25 by credit card, then dispute the charge.

heh

Good one, although I could see that come back to bite me in the ass!!!

I’m just going to deal with it during packet pickup - or the day of. They claim there’s a weigh in - but this is a huge event. I can’t imagine they really weight everyone!!

Just wait until you check in. I’ve done the same thing, it was no big deal. They should not charge you.

may just be easier - I think a $25 deep dish would do the trick!!

Sounds like karma to me.

“Only” $25?! To move you out of a category you don’t qualify for anymore?

That’s robbery. If they cared about the integrity of their race, and not fleecing you out of twenty five bucks, they’d just put you in the proper division. Good grief.

Tell them your current weight at sign-in. If they want to charge you, refuse and race Clyde. If you win anything, decline the prize.

That’s essentially what I think I planned to do - the only issue is, if I win the category - the #2 clyde won’t know what he won until later - just seems unfair -

I just want to do the right thing - not sure why that has to be so hard to do!!

Who knows - maybe I’ll go on a food binge, decide not to workout, and gain 15 back and it’s a moot point - but I’d rather keep loosing a few more!!

Yes, they will weigh all athenas/clydesdales to verify his/her status. As far as charging you to switch, that’s a new one to me. I volunteer at packet pick-ups and have never seen this happen or even be mentioned? I mean, it takes a total of 2 mins. to make the switch in the system? Which tri?

Accenture Chicago - I read on the website that all registry modifications will require a $25 charge:

http://www.chicagotriathlon.com/06act/change.htm
.

We do charge $25.00 to make any changes to your registration (you had until July 1st to make those changes), the only exception to this is the Clydesdale Division. We do weigh all athletes who have signed up for this division at the Expo and if they are not at their weight we drop them into their appropriate age category with no charge.

Cool! That makes me feel much better - glad I won’t have to pack on the pounds to be “legal”!!

Thanks for the clarification -

good grief! the race is still a month and a half away…plenty of time to gain 10 lbs. Or you think the weight will still keep coming off?

I am in NO WAY considering or planning to go back to the Clydesdale division!!! I took almost 20 pounds off so far (since early May) and hope to have another 5-7 off by the end of August - I know it sounds extreme - but I promise I’m healthy!!

Loosing weight is wierd - it’s all in the mindset. I was a swimmer thru college, have run 8 marathons - and always felt a bit heavy (at 205-210). I finally got so frustrated after my last marathon (finished 3:35) and decided that 20 pounds would HAVE to make a huge difference. I just made the decision that it was going to happen - and added a great cardio mix (thus tri’s) and watched my caloric intake -

Mind over matter - so true!!
