I read your part about sending you a lowball figure. Don’t worry…I am not gonna do that because I wouldn’t want a 2005 bike. I did find your post kinda humerous. Just because you found the “going rate” on ebay doesn’t mean that bikes are selling for that much. That is just what they are listed for. Why don’t you actually try watching the auctions to the end and see how many never sell. The problem with bikes is…we pay so much for them and expect our money’s worth when we want to sell them. The majority of used bikes on ebay have high prices or reserves and never sell. Like yours…who is going to pay 3500.00 for a bike made in 2004 or 05 (whether it be carbon or titanium). If noone has told you yet, let me do that for you: you will never sell your bike for 3500.00
Yeah I wasn’t going to say anything, but as long as rammer has chipped in, just for informational purposes, I will add that I bought the exact same bike, an '05 Ultegra Blade off of eBay. But I bought mine in December of '05, with one season of riding on it, and paid $2750 for it, and it had the cranks and bottom bracket included unlike yours, plus the stock Real Design wheels, much higher end than what you have.
Not telling you this to be a jerk, just letting you know you are way off base here. It sucks how much value bikes lose, but that is the reality. I shopped them for quite awhile and that was pretty much the going rate 2 years ago. With Dura-Ace they were fetching more like $3000-$3300, but that was about it. A friend of mine just bought an '05 last month for $2100.
You know, if your looking to tell a lister that you think his item is to highly priced, there are less rude ways of doing that…
Thanks for saving us from ourselves. ST needs more people like you.
Hey, like I said I wasn’t going to respond because I didn’t want to sound like I was telling you what to do, just adding some information based on my experience. If you can get $3500 for that bike, good for you. And if so see if the dude has a brother who rides a 53, because I will sell him mine. ![]()
I don’t have a recommended price for you. I wish you luck selling it for whatever you can get. I know it can be tough to get what you are looking for. I am still trying to sell my '99 Merlin Aerial, a very nice high quality Ti tri-bike with DA 9-spd for $1100 and have had no luck. Like you, I am in no big hurry, just don’t ride it anymore so would like to unload it for a fair price. I would prefer to sell it here over eBay as well.
Good Luck.
Thank you for assuming the role as the hall monitor.
You make some good points. I think I will keep my stuff. Ti isn’t going away and I will probably never have the chance to buy it again. Best I could hope for is some POS carbon bike in a couple of years, or worse yet, an aluminum one. Going to delete my post now since a few people had to give their unsolicited opinion. I guess I really should have expected as much from this forum.
