Hey Tri Folks - Over the past several years my goal has been to build up two awesome Litespeed rigs…road and tri bikes. I’ve had the Saber frame since 2006. Since then ST classifieds has been my best friend. In short, MAJOR bargins included the Zipp 808 wheels, Dura Ace crankset, and the Tuscany Frame. Thanks to all who were honest about the condition of these items and prompt delivery. The items were exactly as stated and I’m still smiling at the positive experience. To make it even sweeter, from advice of fellow STers I found the least expensive online source for gruppos. In a perfect timing situation, I was able to take those prices and use them as a basis to do a price match at Performance Bike during their 25% points weekend in June. See pics of the new rigs below.
Nice Builds…
Your arm rest to extension drop looks awfully painful though. I can’t imagine putting all my weight on the edge of that profile design arm rest for more than about 2 minutes. Have you found it comfotable?
Hmm…I guess I underestimated the snobbiness of ST at times. I thought the “p@rn” label just referred to nice bike builds that make people say WOW!
Yea, so what does the “p@rn” label really mean? Sounds like it means that you have throw a ton of money at a boutique bike shop for a bike that will sit on a wall for display. Sounds a bit poser-ish to me. I guess these rigs would be “p@rn worthy” if I’d just gone to the bike shop and dropped $12K. That doesn’t take much creativity…just a bunch of cash.
IMHO I think it’s pretty cool that I built two AWESOME bikes from scratch…and didn’t have to go broke in the process.
Nice bikes, but get that crap off of the seatpost of your Tuscany. A tubular strapped under the saddle rails with and old toe clip strap on a old school steel Italian steed is classic, but your tube/pump/quikstik/CO2 belongs in a small saddle pack or better yet in your jersey pocket.
Nice builds. I took the seat tube decal on my Saber and put it at the back of the toptube so as not to get ruined by my gel flask holder.
I like the name on the bike. Where did you get that done and how much (if I may ask)? And to the ST community, I’ve already lowered the front end so no comments on the set-up please ; )
Those are a couple of huge looking bikes. What are you 6’6" or something?
They look good and I’m sure you’ll get plenty of use from them. I’m just jealous that I haven’t been able to upgrade my 2000 (or is it 2001) Specialized Allez road bike. Hopefully Jessie and I will have enough left over from our student loans next year to make a couple of purchases. Yes, I know, that might not be the best way to spend our loan money, but at least it’s a low interest rate.
If you’re heading down to Chapel Hill some time, let me know and we’ll see how fast those bikes can ride.
