News at the doctors today was not terribly encouraging. Despite a good diet, lots of exercise and much lost weight, I am borderline diabetic (runs large in my family. Grandfather, father and his two sisters, Cousin and her daughter and my brother’s son is on a pump). My LDL (bad) cholesterol is only mildly elevated but my HDL (good) is somewhat depressed. There are a couple of other things but she wants to put me on Lipitor for awhile. I went to the Lipitor site ( www.lipitor.com ) and the possible side effects scare the living daylights out of me. Arthritis, bursitis, muscle weakness etc. My Dr. wants me to use this and see if it will raise my HDL and in turn reduce my blood sugars??? I go back for more testing in two months. Will it leave me still able to train? I felt like I left with more questions than answers.
Anyone here use this or any MD’s with a little more in depth info?? To be very honest, it doesn’t really make sense to me. I’m leaving for a few hours, so if I don’t reply right away, I’m not ignoring you, I’ll reply as soon as I return.
I’ve been on Lipitor for 2 months. 2 months ago my doc stated the same thing. high bad stuff and border line diabetic. I feel lots better now after 2 months then I did before. I can train longer and not get as wiped out. I actually feel much better. No side effects either. Be careful what you read. The percentage and chances of side effects are very low with Lipitor.
Just take it…and get tested (blood work) every 3 months for side effects.
I’m 50 and this is the only medication I’ve ever had to take. its no big deal.
I am supposed to get tested every two months. By saying you feel better now than two months ago, do you mean you have felt progressively better or the drug made you feel crappy for two months and now you’re through it??
I didn’t really feel wiped out when I trained (except swimming) so now I’m curious as to what happens.
Thank you both, you made me a little more comfortable.
I think my health was not up to par before the Lipitor. I feel as though after being on the drug for about 2 months now, I’m able to workout more, longer and recover better. I had NO ill effects from the drug. it made me feel progressively better then I felt before the drug. My workouts can be longer and harder then before without feeling whooped during or afterwards…blood flow? I really don’t know and really don’t care…it worked…thats all that matters.
