Lions fans, how about we trade for Jay Cutler

We have the #1 pick but whoever we take is going to be a rookie. They will get eaten alive just like all the others we brought in. How about we get Cutler, whose salary is manageable and has some experience? I can’t justify paying a rookie QB millions.

This is freaky. I swear I did not read this before posting the original:

With it being very obvious that Cutler wants out of Denver his trade value goes down. My guess is that the Lions could use the 20th overall pick that they get from Dallas along with a second day pick and get Cutler. Then they could talk to a few of the top flight offensive tackles and find out which one would sign a contract that would be the best value for them. If they chose a qb with the first overall pick he’ll cost them a ton.

What is Cutler’s reason for wanting out of Denver?

He’s pissed off because new coach Josh McDaniels tried to trade him in a deal that would have sent Cutler to Tampa and brought Matt Cassell in from New England. Ever since word of that broke things haven’t been great, but after their latest meeting things have apparently gotten worse. I heard on the radio this morning that Cutler’s house in Denver is for sale.

Never a good sign when the qb puts his house on the market.

Cutler apparently thinks that 25 TDs and 18 interceptions in a season, along with ZERO playoff wins in 3 years should make him the God of Denver football, and thus, entitled to some advanced notice that he’s being “considered” in trade talks. Frankly, I think McDaniels handled it poorly. However, Cutler’s actions since have indicated that he’s just a big baby. Detroit can have him, as far as I’m concerned. What a whiney little bitch.

The way Denver’s housing market is (especially at the high end), he’ll be looking to move at the end of next season.

I think its just his agents play to try to get more money by breaking his contract. Win a F’n playoff game and then we’ll talk.

Did you notice the complete lack of defense during Denver’s last 3 games? Losing 52 - 21 is not the fault of the offense.

This is true. The defense sucked ass last year. However, Cutler squandered an opportunity to really be a class act. All he had to do was say “There’s no harm no foul. This is a business, and people get traded for good and bad business decisions. I love playing here in Denver, and I look forward to be the starting QB here for many seasons and bringing a Super Bowl championship back to Denver.”

If he’d shrugged it off as the business opportunity it was instead of taking it as a personal insult, this would have been a a blip. But no. The Big Fourth Grader got pissed off because the new kid on the playground dared suggest somebody else might be a better candidate for his job.

Lions fans - while I sympathize with your suffering, keep in mind that Jay Cutler is just the second coming of Jeff George. Great arm, lousy attitude and whines like a little bitch. Folds when the going gets tough. Caveat emptor.

Here is an interesting blog that I follow about the Lions.

I think I like the idea of trading for Cutler. The money is SOOOO expensive for a first rounder and the QB rookie position is too risky.

I have heard that Matt Millen has actually caused alot of the Cutler chaos.

Funny thing is he wasn’t really any of those things until this last “misunderstanding”. He seemed pretty solid all round which is why I think a lot of us Denver folks are surprised to see his new attitude surface before his potential has been reached.

Sure the defense sucked, but there were some horrendous offensive decisions along the way that looked more like a high-school coach and a high school qb than a super-bowl combination.

" Funny thing is he wasn’t really any of those things until this last “misunderstanding”."

Actually, he’s been called “whiny” by several other teams, including to his face on the field.

Just a note, Cutler’s agent is the same guy who helped negotiate Favre’s smooth return after his “retirement.”

Cutler came from a below average college program, and has a below .500 record in the NFL. He has no room to be this whiny, but such is life.

Cutler reminds me of Ryan Leaf.

I bet he had a hand in the Shanahan firing too.

Long time Bronco Fan here. In my opinion Jay is whinning, however, the coach is wrong he shoud never have tried to trade for Matt Castle.

Cutler set the franchise record for passing yards, this is a franchise that has if not the greatest one of the top three quarterbacks in the history of the NFL, he did this while going through eight different starting running backs. The offense was #2 in the NFL, he had the second most fourth quarter touchdowns 10 to Rivers 11. Do not blame the offense for the collapse, the defense was #30 the Raiders and Rams had better defenses.

Now if they trade Jay, the best trade is not to Detroit but to Cleveland straight up for Brady Quinn.
