Limited bike time

Is a 30 min. spin on my trainer better than nothing at all? Some days I just don’t have time for a full on workout, like yesterday I had just enough time to get on my trainer for 30 mins. and get ready for work to make it on time. I felt worked when I was done, but not like I had accomplished anything significant, and I was thinking of jumping on again after work, but until I got home if I’d have gotten on the trainer I wouldn’t have eaten dinner until 8:30pm which is way too late for me. Man this growin’ up sh** sucks, I wanna be 20 something again with no responsibility.

Am in a similar position - minimum working day at the moment is 10 hours, mostly more like 12. Provided you still have time to sleep, it’s always better to do something than nothing. Even 30 minutes is enough to get warmed up and aerobic and stimulate HGH. Can you get to bed half an hour earlier and fit in an hour on the trainer in the morning?

Better go, trying to get out of work in time for a swim tonight…

That’s pretty much what I’ve been doing and usually get a good spin done in the a.m., that day was just a little more hectic and was only able to get in 30 mins. I’ll eventually get it tweaked, I’m just getting back into triathlon after many year hiatus, so all I’ve really had to do the past 12 years was get my run in or surf before work, now I have to get back to juggling the swim and bike as well. But that’s actually one of the reasons I’m returning, I missed the training and the competing.

Anything is better then nothing

Doing the W/T is a much better option then the road

Short warmup and then straight into it, and you can get a good quality session down under 30min.

At times the working class athletes lives comes down to minutes and seconds. Take what you can and make the most of it.

Get your arse out of bed 30 minutes earlier ould give you an hour ride; and hour earlier would give you a 90 minute ride…where is the problem.

Many times this forum has had the discussion about getting up early to get everything accomplished:

You can get something accomplished in 30’ but there must be quality to it. i.e. do 5’wu, 20’ @ 1’ hard(above LT) and 1’ easy , 5’ cd. Dont just spin. Rich Strauss says “the shorter you ride the harder you go” applies. Unless your in a race build up at this point dont’ freak out…Hang in there!

Here’s a great little turbo session I like very much for days when time is short. (caveat: it’s not the most scientific session ever, but it’ll give you a worthwhile workout in a very short time).

10mins easy spin warm-up
7mins at ~80%MHR, then STRAIGHT INTO
5mins at ~85%MHR (FT for me), then STRAIGHT INTO
3mins at ~90%MHR, then STRAIGHT INTO
1min as hard as you can!
4mins easy cool-down

here’s another:
5mins easy spin warm-up
8mins at ~75%MHR, then STRAIGHT INTO
6mins at ~80%MHR, then STRAIGHT INTO
4mins at ~85%MHR (FT for me), then STRAIGHT INTO
2mins at ~90%MHR
5mins easy cool-down

and a third:
5mins easy spin warm-up
20mins alternating 30secs very hard with 30secs very easy. All with a high cadence
5mins easy cool-down

Hmmm, well I already get up at 5am, however my living situation does not allow for making noise that early, it’s called being considerate to others. My point was not about waking early enough, but rather getting the most out of what time you have.

Buy lights and ride outside then. Then you have all bases covered…being considerate and getting the miles in
