Conservatives are supposedly strict constructionists when it comes to the Constitution.
Here is a quote from Rush Limbaugh’s recent speech:
“We love and revere our founding documents, the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence. We believe that the preamble to the Constitution contains an inarguable truth that we are all endowed by our creator with certain inalienable rights, among them life. Liberty, Freedom. And the pursuit of happiness.”
Here is the entire text of the Preamble to the Constitution:
“We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”
Limbaugh is trying to take the Declaration of Independence and turn it into the Constitution. There are three problems with this.
First, the Declaration has no legal force in U.S. law.
Second, the Constitution was written to separate church and state, so there is no mention of the Creator or any other reference to God in the Constitution, on purpose.
Third, that language about all men being created equal would cause of lot of problems for a lot of conservatives, who have been fighting that concept for a long time.

Weak…You’re just trying to use a non-issue to distract from the fact that the serial adulterer/fornicator and drug abuser doesn’t care about the accuracy of what he says as long as it feathers his fat nest. We can only assume this is because you have nothing to say of any relevance or intellectual substance on the subject.
What do you want? Assuming what you’re saying is true, and I don’t care enough to confirm it one way or another, then he made a silly statement and confused the Declaration of Independence with the Preamble to the Constitution. He’s a radio personality and entertainer…I really don’t care what he says. I concern myself with the actions of those that can actually have an impact on me and my family. Of course, you may have different priorities.
Limbaugh, by his own admission, is talking with half his brain tied behind his back; unfortunately, it shows. But it’s almost incredible that the windbag doesn’t even know that those words come from the opening of the Declaration of Independence.

Actually, that’s not strictly true. In Article VII, there’s a reference to “the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty seven.”
Similar to when he mixed up his Percocets and Oxycontin. The percocet has tylenol in it, and chronic overexposure to it burned out his hearing. Hence the need for cochlear implants…I am sure that his chronic narcotic abuse has nothing at all to with his ability to pontificate on our Constitution (grin).
Rush is pure entertainment. Just put a clown nose on him and you will have captured his essence. Everyone that hangs on to what he says is just wasting their time. You saw what a force he was in the last election right? Zilch!
you do realize that he is a talk show host, nothing more-nothing less. About the same relative importance as Imus or Howard Stern. I can’t understand the perpetual hardon you have for the guy.
Actually I want Obama’s policies to fail as well. What more can he do, tank the markets - nope did that already. Raise my taxes (already in the plans), how about transfer wealth from those who have worked hard, acquired wealth and been conservative to those who need to have their over extended asses bailed out - nope thats on its way also. So yeah, maybe if his policies fail, which I hope they do, then we can get back to a more capitalistic society.

I think RL is a huge jackass and disagree with almost everything he says but… do we really need to pile on him for fornicating? I mean, fornication is the primary means for the survival of the human race. It’s not like he is a member of the clergy and has taken a vow of celibacy.
Just a talk show host like Imus or Stern??? Rush is the most influential voice in the entire conservative movement. Stern and Imus have zero control over Gov’t policy but Rush has Congressman calling his show and apologizing after they dare question his opinions (shoe in mouth disease)…
Let me get this straight. Everything bad that happened during George W 8 years (6 with complete control in Congress) was Clinton’s fault but everything that has happened in Obama’s 40 days in office is not W’s fault but entirely Obamas?

If he was the sheep would not vote in the same Republicans they vote in every year. He is popular but in the end of the day he does not influence election to the degree you think he does.
Rush is to the Republicans as Jesse Jackson is to the Dems. An interesting voice but essentially a representative of the fringe element of an otherwise captive voter block. Both jackson and Rush have very little influence on swaying otherwise uncommitted swing voters as their arguments are as transparent as their over the top personalities.
My favorite Rush clip from CPAC was his admonishment of the Repubs for holding open primaries. Apparently Mr. Limbaugh – the self-anointed “Commander of Operation Chaos” – is tired of “Democrats choosing our candidates.”
