I’m searching for a lightweight trainer shoe, for speedwork and races. I run 30-50 mpw, medium build (6’, 170lbs), have low arches, and pronate slightly.
My favorite so far has been the Brooks Axiom, only 10 oz but still slightly supportive. Fit like a glove, but my local running store doesn’t carry it this year? WTF?
For regular trainers, I’ve also run in the Asics 2110 (felt too supportive and heavy), the Brooks Adrenaline 7 (feels too flat). I feel much more comfortable in a lightweight/performance trainer, so any advice?
Anyways, I was considering either:
Mizuno Wave Elixir 2
Nike Air Zoom Elite 3
Both of these shoes seem similar to the Axiom. Have any of you tried both? What are your suggestions?
Any others out there worth considering?
brooks st3 racers, we have a similar build and i pronate slightly as well. I think they are just under 9oz, they are great shoes to run in sockless as well. Im running 50+mpw and i run exclusively in these shoes.
I just got a pair of Pearl Izumi “Shine”. Feel real good with the seamless upper. I like then so far with two races on them. I have a fairly high arch and run pretty neutral.
The new Elixer is a bit off on fit. And the DS Trainer is now built on their racing last which is very narrow. probably why people have jumped ship
Saucony Fastwitch might be too light (7.5 0z), try their new tangent…very lively and 9.5 oz
you won’t be happy with the zoom elite as it is 11.5 OZ now
I’ve been running in Karhu’s M1 (9.5-10 OZ)model for the past year and am loving them. they have a small carbon plate in the midsole to give them a smidge of stability.
Any online sellers have the Axiom? You seem to know what you want and in what size…
Yep, that’s what I did today, found the Axiom online for $59 at Kelly’s Running Warehouse.
I figured that it’s best to stick with a sure thing (plus it was on sale at a bargain!).
