Looking for recommendations on a stability shoe that would be lighter than my Asics Kayanos Xll, but have some of the same properties. Looking for a shoe to run spring marathon that is light, but stable. Make sense?

I train in 2110’s and race in DS trainers. DS trainer is a great shoe. Not as light (10 oz) as a flat but very stable and well cushioned.
I find the Kayano much too heavy and bulky though.
I use a ds trainer as a short distance shoe, I train in kayanos.
I was thinking of DS, but didn’t know how stable they would be. Also, didn’t know about marathon distance in them.

Used to wear Kayanos, but now wear 2110 and DS Trainer. I’ve worn the DS Trainer’s in several 1/2 marathons with no problems. I think the new 2120??? are lighter than the 2110’s, but still heavier than the DS.
I am under 120 and pronate greater on the right. I think I actually had more minor overuse problems with the Kayanos. Since being in the 2110’s for several year, I have been fairly pain free. But, I was running 30 - 40 plus miles per a week in the Kayanos and run less than 25 now.
I used to run in the Kayano and used the DS Trainer for races up to HIM’s.
I now run in the 2120, it’s much lighter than the 2110, 60grams lighter per shoe. The new DS Trainer is going to be shipped in January and it’s supposed to be lighter than the old one. I plan on using the DS Trainer in my next IM.

Look at the Mizuno Precisions. They’re stable yet light and sweet looking. I ran a marathon in them no problem. Also, do a search as there have been quite a few positive comments about them over the past few years.
If you want to stay within the ASICS line, the DS trainer is plenty of shoe for a marathon for all but most seriously biomechanically messed up runners. The forefoot wears out quickly though, so save them for short training and racing.
Another poster mentioned the Mizuno wave precisions - I agree here as well if you are looking at another brand. Might want to try both on as they are similar in mission but feel a bit different.
I would not jump into a Brooks T4, Saucony fastwitch or DS racer (just some shoe examples) for a marathon just yet though.
What about the Fastwitch Endurance version? I am planing to use that at IMAZ in April.
Nothing wrong with that shoe at all - in fact, that was my old fav (I now LOVE the Saucony type-A). But, it is a pretty minimal shoe and to use that for a marathon or IM “safely”, I would assume that you have run many other long races in them (like, at least a fast, under 1:30 1/2 marathon or so). An elite runner (like Sergio) would have little problems in any shoe. But, to go from a Kayano that the OP runs in to a fastwitch (endurance) for a marathon would not be prudent. 5K - 10K sure.
I have been running in the Nike free for the past 2 months for runs less than 60 mins trying to build some feet strength. For 60+ mins, i go to the fastwitch speed version and i feel like there is so much cushioning. So i figure if i go with the endurance version for a marathon, it would be fine. Yes i have done 1:30 half but with the Mizuno Aero which is actually very similar to the Fastwitch endurance. But Mizuno stopped making the aero models.
I train in the Gt 2110 and race in the DS Trainers as well. I’ve run up to a 30 km race in the DS Trainers and have had no problems. They are nicely cushioned, lightweight and very comfortable. The forefoot tread on mine is pretty much worn out now with about 350 km of racing on them. The Gt’s have lasted 700-1000 km over my last two pairs.
another vote for the DS trainers.
Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m pretty confident the only difference between the 2 Saucony Fasttwitch models (SPEED and the ENDURANCE) is that the Speed is a neutral shoe and the Endurance is a stability shoe with a medial post. You either need the post or you don’t. If you don’t need a medial post, you shouldn’t run in a shoe that has one, or you’ll risk screwing yourself up.
The DS Trainer would be a fine choice.
I train in Brooks Adrenalines which offer the same kind of stability as the Kayanos and FWIW I’ve run a shitload of marathons in the Asics DS Racer. I’d definites suggest running a a half marathon in something this light before committing to it for a marathon, but if your body can handle it they’re great shoes.
But how about the Brooks Axiom?
I am loving this shoe right now and am basically using it as my everyday trainer despite years of wearing very cushy, neutral shoes.
Light, very flexible and very comfy…what’s not to love?

I have no miles on the Axiom, but I like their design. Actually, you might want to continue the “tranformation” for shorter races to the T4 racer as well
I don’t remember the exact specs, but the new DS Trainer is going to be something 1 oz lighter than the current model.
It looks to be a sweet shoe, and should still have all the cushioning as before, thanks to the switch to the new solyte material (found in the new flagship , the Kinsei).
I love the DS Trainer, I’ve had several generations of them, and I train in Kayano-like shoes (saucony hurricane/omni, brooks adrenaline, asics 2100/empire, etc). I’ll almost certainly get the new one for marathon/IM efforts.
I plan to. Just haven’t gotten around to ordering the T4. And I think I have to work on my speed a bit more before wearing that fast shoe! ![]()
(Did you know Madonna Buder wore the T4 in Kona this year? Amazing!)
I call the Axiom my happy shoe. The placement of the posting fits nicely under my high arch and because I strike mid-foot, it doesn’t affect my gait at all. The shoe is as light, or a tad lighter, than the DS Trainer and way more flexible, at least it feels that way to me.
So far I have gone 2:00 in the Axiom with only a little knee achy-ness…and that was at the end of IM training so everything hurt anyway.
I suspect I could do a marathon in the Axiom. I know others who have.

Lightweight and stable? DS trainer. Lightweight and flat? DS racer. ![]()
(btw… I never ran a marathon…)
