Has anyone done this race in the past? Was the water too warm for wetsuits? any advice?
thanks in advance

I was just out there on Thursday afternoon. The water is already 70+ degrees and very warm. i was pretty warn out with my wetsuit on. It will probably be to warm again this year to race with a wetsuit on. I am thinking about getting a technical suit, possibly a TYR aquashift to compensate for the wetsuit.
They are also fixing some of the roads on the course, hopefully it will smooth out some of the rough spots
Pros couldn’t wear wetsuits last year, but the rest could. I didn’t because I didn’t have one yet. One guy I know said his made him so warm he kind of got sick for the rest of the race.
If you’re wondering about the rest of the race…it’s a well-run and fun event. It was cool to watch the pros take off, and to follow the race on the jumbo-tron while waiting for our waves.
I did the short course last year and I’m racing long course this year. Last year I believe the water was 78F making it wetsuit legal for amateurs, but I swam without a wetsuit. I expect it to be really close again this year and will probably wear a wetsuit if allowed.
