I just wanted to know what happened to Craig Walton. He hammered everyone on the swim and bike and then dropped out 1/3 the way through the run. Has he been racing anywhere? I know he isn’t doing the ITU races this year.
i dont know but he looked really good so i was surprised when he started walking - he didnt seem to be injured but who knows … sometimes you win and soemtimes you lose! Emma was awesome … i was hoping she would pull off a win but still she is $80,000 richer and im sure that will ease the pain!
i think walton’s signed up for ITU edmonton. i know i am.

He said he just was way off on the run. It was brutally hot and he really pushed it on the swim and bike. He said he’s got races coming up the next few weeks, so it maybe kind of makes sense to pull the plug.
He looked like he grabbed his hamstring. That’s at least what it appeared to be. That’d certainly force you to drop out on the run… IMPOSSIBLE to run if you pull your hamstring…
I don’t think he pulled his hammie…he was walking around just fine after he made it back in.
Maybe a spasm or cramp back there, then. I definitely saw him grab back there right before he started walking.
I thought it was kind of dumb for Siri Lindley to be like “it MUST be something career threatening.” If he cramped or spasmed and couldn’t run, even if he wanted to and knew it was just a cramp, then he’s gonna drop out. No way he’s gonna catch anyone if he’s running gimpy, even if it isn’t a threat to his career.
Any kind of impairment is going to finish a race when you are going that hard. What’s he gonna do, walk it in? That’s just stupid…
That race was his “A” race. It is THE biggest non-drafting Olympic-distance race in the world.
I came from a swimming background (after football), and I’d love for a swimmer to dominate this sport, but I think Walton is on his way out.
“A” race doesn’t mean anything if he knew he couldn’t finish in the money. If it was just a cramp/spasm, such that he knew he couldn’t run, then why bother running just to finish? It’s not like it’s some point of pride to finish an Olympic distance race for him. And a minor cramp/spasm could turn into something worse if he kept running. It was only his “A” race when $160,000 was within reach. After that disappeared (along with any other chance for a real payday), it’s just another (bad) day.
Andy Potts appears to be on the way “in,” so perhaps you’ll get your wish…
