I got it down to these two choices. I’m buying it specifically for IMF and tend to need more ventilation as I sweat a lot and become dehydrated relatively easily. The temps at IMF, I hear, are typically 75 for a high. Let me know what you think. I really like that I have the option to take off the ear pieces on the supercomp for longer races and put them on for shorter races. Plus it comes with a visor. On the side, people swear by the rocket. I’ve also looked at the new Giro, but I’m hesitant to buy something before it’s been out there for people to try. Thanks for the help.
You need to find what fits your head. I had the Syton, which IMO was cooler than the Rocket. But it didn’t fit right. I was uncomfortable at every race which made me miserable on the bike. I switched to the Rocket and could wear it all day long. Plus it sits right on my back when in the aero position, which is a huge bonus.
The 2007 model Rocket has more vents then previous years and is therefore cooler. Tim
Why do you keep asking the same questions over and over?
First it was the LG Rocket and Cronus which you said you got. Then the LG Rocket and the Prologue. Now it is the Rocket and Syntos. The majority of the posters said to go with the Rocket yet you still make a new thread asking now about the Syntos and the Rocket. Why post and ask if you do not want to listen to them?
Go with the Rocket and be done with it. WTF! Is it really that difficult to pick a helmet?
OK, I can talk about this…
I’ve both. Rudy Syton Open and 2008 LG Rocket.
Go with the LG Rocket if paying extra is not a dealbreaker for you. LG is as vented as rudy, infact your head (top portion) gets more ventilation in LG. LG sits better and has a better retention system. In Rudy i had the sliding factor like regular helmets. it was sliding forward in aero position for me.
Well, if you will look over the questions again, they are not the same. Each asks a comparison between different helmets. As I am researching the issue, I am further narrowing down my choices between research and opinions I get on this site. You’ll notice that I never asked to compare the Rocket against the Sytos before. Further, as I clarified for the slower people in my last post, I assumed everyone would have enough common sense to know that when I said “I just got it”, they would know I meant I purchased it, as I was just posting that day about which one I should choose. I didn’t really expect anyone to be so slow as to expect that I purchased an item and received it through the mail in the matter of hours. Thank you for reminding me that I may need to dumb my statements down for some people on this board.
I hope that you understand this post and I do not have to further clarify it for you or make it more simple. I simply do not have the time to retrace my steps and make sure that you can catch up with everyone else.
Thank you very much. That’s exactly what I need to hear. I’m glad someone has replied who has tried both and can accurately compare the two. I was hesitant about the rocket because it does not look well ventilated, but that’s the tricky part about not being able to see it in a store or try it out on the road before I buy. What kind of temps did you wear the helmets in? What kind of distances? Did you have the same experiences in higher temps and/or longer distances? Thanks.

That is exactly what you have said to other posters when they have recommended the Rocket before. It is not rocket science. As a hundred other posters have said, just go with the Rocket. The Rocket was the most common aero helmet at Kona. Is you race going to be hotter that that?
And just so we can be prepared for you tomorrow, what will the next thread be on? *Rocket vs Spiuk or Rocket vs Giro Advantage *![]()

I must be missing something… You are buying the helmet specifically for IMF, you like the option of taking the ear pieces off the supercomp for longer races, but you’re considering the rocket. What, exactly, do you consider a long race, if an IM doesn’t fit that description???
If you really think removing the ear pieces will be a bonus for a long race (and you consider IM a long race), you should be debating between the Chrono and the Syton. However, only the Syton will give you the option of having the ear pieces for shorter races (for a big price difference, of course).
BTW, I compared the Rocket, the Chrono and the Syton in my reply to one of your other posts on this subject. I tried them all and bought the Chrono. And, no, it wasn’t because of ventilation. (The ear pieces aren’t going to make it hotter.)

As I’ve said in my other postings and in this one, I am getting ready for IMF = Ironman Florida. That’s not a HIM. Thank you for your reply.
Thank you for your reply. I did not mean longer than an IM. I meant generally speaking, in an unrelated thought, it would be good to be able to remove the ear pieces in a longer race, like an IM and keep them for the shorter races, like sprints.
I understand your thought process. But, what I’m telling you is that the ear pieces are not going to make a difference with regards to heat buildup. From my experience with all of the helmets that you’ve asked about (although limited), I would not consider the removeable ear pieces a plus or a minus. They will not make the helmet hotter or cooler. They will, however, drastically change your ability to hear what’s going on around you. That’s a much bigger issue in my book. And, since you mentioned it… There is data that shows that a visor is slower. (Although, there’s probably also data that shows the opposite, as well.) And, the visor does make it hotter inside the helmet.

Thank you. That’s helpful.
