Lewis Hamilton

If you follow F1 you know who I’m talking about… after this weekend all I can say is this kid is for real!

(I hope this is OK in this forum… I figured carbon fiber, titanium, racing, athlete, speed… sort of on-topic… at least more than “Dog P0rn”

You are absolutely correct! I’ve been an F1 fan for 30 years. This kid may have better technical skills than anyone except Schumaker and Stewart. He drove the wheels off that car yesterday.

Lewis is the real deal. He is unbelievable quick and doesn’t make mistakes. Another point that I often think about is whether or not the mclaren suits alonso as much as it suits hamilton. If your up on your f1, you know that alonso has his “fast hands” driving approach. In alot of the faster, more challenging turns, his style of driving is different from almost any body else out there. He approaches the friction circle from a different perspective. This was really evident when he drove the renault. Anyway, he likes to break loose the front of the car into a push and then steer back into the car picking up traction on the way back, theoretically passing thru and ideally holding the maximum traction at the front. From what I understand, it is mega difficult to set up a car that doesn’t go bonkers into snap oversteer with this type of thrashing of the front end. Renault had it dialed and you could see how hard fish-killer struggled with a car that is based upon that type of handling. Back to the point, from the incar, it seems like alonso is driving a little more traditional this year, so maybe that is where some of his speed has gone.
But the bottom line is, Alonso’s not getting it done and hamilton is. It would be incredible for anyone to be smoking a 2 time world champ, let alone a rookie. Add some “he’s one of the most likeable guys out there” icing, and it’s a done deal. Lewis is the shiznit! - E

Lewis Hamilton is amazing indeed. He is fun to watch.

Don’t know anything about F1, but Hamilton’s first victory provided me a good laugh as the local sports announcer, bowing to all things PC, referred to Hamilton as the “first African-American to win a Formula One race.”
.

The only thing that could have been better is if I were at Indy this past weekend. Oh…the endorsement $$ this guy is going to be able to command.

He will be “the name” talked about in regards to F1 for a while. Or, at least that is what I think. From his very first interview, last year when they announced he was going to drive, he has been a class act. My hat off to him for all the great interviews, the honest answers, and the overall positive attitude he displays.

F1 is technology racing just like fancy material bike. So, I say (for what that is worth) F1 is allowed. Just no NASCAR because we all know real racers turn left and right.

Theres been plenty of guys to show up in F1, drive the best car, win a championship, and never do anything again when they no longer have a dominant car
Lets not anoint Hamilton yet =)

I’m sure you meant to include Senna :frowning: along with the duo you mentioned…

He is definitely on a roll but I totally agree and also think he (and Bernie) will cash in on his current success; as they should. McLaren has those cars so dialed in that it’s scary…

I think it is great he is racing to take care of his brother who has CP when it is time to care for him. That is so awesome

Who? Villenueve? He dominated in his first two years with Williams and then Williams had the Mechachrome (sp?) engine in his third year which was way off in power. The next year he switched to Honda or BAR, which his manager Craig Pollack waaaaay over-hyped and sold Jacques on, and that was the biggest mistake of his career. He’s a complicated fellow and I think that experience at BAR ruined him for good.

Yeah, seems like Jeson Button may have to move over as the “next big thing” from GBR. And while it may not be PC to say so, I think it is fantastic that he is a minority.

He still has a lot to prove in coming years, but we may be witnessing the birth of the best F1 driver ever.

Yes, as someone mentioned above, he is a class act and a gentlemen. I hope he continues to race well for a long, long time. The sport needs compelling drivers to take us away (me anyway) from the fascination with the technology and how it is applied to the cars. Did you catch on Saturday the use of SAP for part life and inventory control? Most companies could have learned a thing or two from that 5 minute segment.

Good to see all the ST F1 fans. Hamilton is if nothing else an extremely likeable guy and seems like a class act. Being a big Ferrari fan I cheer for whomever is in their driver seat but the last few years it became harder and harder to cheer for Schumi. Massa and Kimi aren’t bad guys but it’s hard not to hope Hamilton does well; let’s just get him in a Ferrari uniform as soon as possible.

I’ve always liked Kimi for some reason… but I’m enjoying not having to listen to his monotonous voice in the post-race interviews. I know it’s a Finnish thing, but he takes it to another level!

I do miss Shumi’s podium celebrations, though… and on a related note, I fear brother Ralf’s days are numbered.

I have to admit that I am a Hamilton fan.

One, for his guts behind the wheel. He drives to win. He is driving like he owns the whole F1 series. He just does not seem to bow to the “you have X years in the padock, so I’ll get out of your way” mentality that so many new drivers show. I like the way he drives that car.

Two, he does just come off as a good guy with decent attitudes towards his success.

In the end we will see his true colors when he has a failure of some type and if he explodes, on camera, with a series of “F” bombs we will know if it was an act (I’m thinking Tiger Woods/Rosie Odonnell here). Me, I’m hoping he is the good guy he seems to be. F1 needs a decent personality.

I’m sure you meant to include Senna :frowning: along with the duo you mentioned…

Oh yes, I forgot Senna. Another one who could just flat out drive.

I just hope Lewis doesn’t end up like Villeneuve and he’s just a flash in the pan. Yes, he’s an awesome driver but let’s wait until he wins a championship to declare him the best thing ever in F1. He’s definately let Alonso know he’s not there to be the #2 driver.

Personally I’ve always liked Kimi from his Sauber days, even though I’ve always been a Ferrarista and Schumossi, so having Kimi switch to Ferrari was great news. I’m afraid that Ross Brown’s temporary(?) departure is not the best thing that could have happened to Ferrari nor Kimi for that matter. I hope Ferrari bounces back soon so we can enjoy great duels between Ferrari and McLaren.
