Levi's Front Wheel?

Very cool! What do you guys think, maybe a new wheel from Lightweight?

Hub is wrong for a LightWeight. It looks like a zipp rim with the hed alps hub, but would not make sense.

I think Walser makes wheels, since he is riding a Walser TT bike perhaps the wheels are Walser as well?

What WOULD make sense is a deep Hed Stinger rim (something previously advertised, but not yet seen on the market) with a Hed Sonic Hub. That’s what I’d put my $ on.

Maybe this? http://forum.slowtwitch.com/gforum.cgi?post=345520

That’s the one, Gary.

Why does Hed call it the Carbon"lite". It’s not much different weight than the original Hed Deep 90.

Oh I forgot, it’s carbon, so it must be coooooooler.

That would go with the HED bars he has. Makes a lot of sense.

The front wheel is a Shimano D/A prototype. I have no idea if and when it’ll be on the market.

The D/A proto is on a lot of bikes in the peloton and it’s no where near that deep.

well…there may just be ANOTHER Shimano proto out there…

Don’t you love when the “insiders” and “experts” post

There are two that I’ve seen personally. One is a scandium tubeless rimmed wheel (Michelin tires) that’s been seen all over Orange County, and that I had on my Kredo for a week (expert enough for you??). I was told it was nearing it’s release date, but there’s been some recent problems, so that may have changed - I had no problems with them at all. The other is the 404’esq carbon wheel that I’ve seen on a bike, but didn’t get a chance to hold in my hot little hands. I’d be shocked if Shimano was developing a rim 80+mm in depth given that it’s a pretty small market for that type of wheel. I guess it’s possible. Anybody have better info?

hey, i didn’t say “expert,” that was Mojo. i’ve seen the wheel that’s on Levi’s bike in Sonoma County (when it had the D/A proto stickers on it).

the new da wheel is not that deep…this is the new hed 90. very cool wheel and the disc is a lightweight. also, very cool.

Gary and Frank are the guys I would go with here. They know what they are talking about on this one. Andy (I work at Hed)

Hi Andy, Whats the feed back on how the Stinger 90 rides? Much problem in the wind compaired to a H3. For Hed pro’s how would you advise them on wheel choice for different conditions between the 90 and the H3?

I wonder which Lance will use in the Tour?

And Andy, when will there factory 2nds available?

It rides pretty well, similar to an H3. I’ve been commuting on it for about 6 weeks. I got an odd sensation the first couple of days on it - when a crosswind hits it it does not try to steer the bike off course, instead, it is like someone is gently trying to tip you over. I got used to it in two days and it has been great ever since. I’ve ridden in 20mph wind with gusts to 35 and have not tipped over. Judging from how it is as a front wheel, it will make a great back wheel for sure, but right now there is only one. I can’t give any feedback on exackly how it is as a back wheel.
I have not ridden a Deep front and then turned around and gone right back out on an H3, so I can’t tell you any minute differences in handling between the two. My impression is that they handle about the same. If anything, I get the sensation of the wind trying a little more to steer an H3, and wind trying to tip me over with the deep front. I don’t think either is bad (on my traditional angled road bike).
I wonder which Lance will use too. Its not like he has a contract to use our wheels, and when he finds something he likes he tends to stick with it.
