Levi showed up at the Copperopolis Road Race today. He did that last year too I believe and road the last 24 miles solo for a win. I did not hang around after my race to see how he finished, but he was leading the main pack (what was left) up the slight grade to the finish chasing a group of 6 that had around 90 seconds on his group. They still had 44 miles to go though. Man Levi is a tiny guy. Looked like one of the juniors out racing, just with bigger (much bigger) legs.
Levi got DQed (center line violation). Ben Jacques-Maynes won, Scotty Nidam was 2nd and Andy J-M was third.

There is only 2000’ of centerline in the whole race. How can he screw that up. Thank you for the update. I did not notice you at the race, but I raced and only hung out at the finish for a few minutes waiting for my teammates.
I wasn’t there (at Xantursia this week), but heard from a number of teammates who were there. Plus Levi posted on Twitter.

Remember…centerline is “implied” when not physically marked. It’s a judgement call at that point…but I have seen it called many times.
it happened at the finish where the centerline is marked, and they warned us before the race that it would be in effect. still kind of dumb, although i doubt levi cared much. he did work to set up his buddy nydam who got second.
on the first lap there were quite a few surges at the front and it was tough to tell if a break would roll off. i was watching moves and jumping on some that might be promising when i look over and there’s levi hammering right next to me. then he dropped back and got on my wheel and i though “oh crap, please go way because i don’t want to be ‘that guy’ who takes him out!”
That is odd - around here, the “center line” rule is off for the final Sprint, which is nice to have the whole road. They marshall cars for that nasty few secs (at least they did today)
Definitely safer to have the whole road for the typical big pack sprints for flatish courses. I know that is not always possible though.
what is a center line violation?
that’s more typical for here as well, just not in the case of this race, which is our roubaix. the course is anything but flat - ~1500 feet of climbing per lap, 5 laps, 105 miles, lots of false flats and headwinds. it also has really bad sections of pavement and a 40+mph long descent down a road with an indescribable amount of patches & potholes.
anyway, it ends on a hill so there’s not much of a bunch sprint regardless.
what is a center line violation?
Same thing as in triathlon. You cannot cross over the yellow center line on the road.
The officials were very specific about two things in the race, crossing the center line at the finish area and peeing in public.
