Whats your favorite waterbottle? I have a few cheapies from races, as well as a Specialized and a couple camelback podiums. Far and away like the camelbacks the best. Best nozzle system (doesn’t leak, can lock it off, small enough so my kid’s small fingers don’t get in there and rip apart the diaphragm like they did with the specialized…)
To be more specific. Camelbak ICE (not podium). Spent $50 on one of these water bottles when a few came available on ebay because Camelbak does not sell them anymore. Only flaw is that they rocket out of a rear saddle bottle cage so they must be dummy corded into the cage.
I use a couple of Polar insulated bottles. 24 oz and no matter what I do I haven’t been able to launch them from a bottle cage. Super happy with them and only $13/bottle
Camelbak podium for regular arundel chrono for aero. I actually take and fill my arundel chrono with water from my podium on some longer rides, just because the podium is mounted on the seat tube and its hard to get out of the holder due to its height. Ultimately I want to do dual Chronos if they’ll fit.
The only real drawback with the camelbacks is they whistle if you put a Nuun in there. I just wasn’t as impressed with the specialized purist as I have been with the podiums. I typically pack one camelback and one cheapie on my long rides and fill up my xlab torpedo BTA bottle with the cheapie because it’s faster to squeeze the contents from the cheapie, so I guess they have that going for them…
Count me with the Purist Hydroflo fans (only thing I use from that infernal company), but they’re crazy hard to find. I like them because they’re much easier to get fluid out of with a quick easy squeeze while riding, so it’s quicker and more stable.
Here in New Zealand, the best generally available are a pretty standard bottle. Large size, wide mouth, screw top, typical pop top with good gripper logo on the side
Systema is the brand. They are good in that they are flexible enough plastic, but not too soft. The mouth piece is some sort of rubber so easy on the mouth (not a hard plastic) and they all open easily but not too easily.
I’ve tried all sorts of expensive specialty bottles and they all seem to solve non-existent problems and end up being A) more expensive than necessary and B) more hassle to use than a standard bottle.
The only specialty bottle I’ve kept over the years is a 20+ year old Jetstream, series 2. The original was round, the series 2 is oval and series 3 was squished even more oval. The series 2 is bombproof, simple, easy to use, works great, and the best $39 I ever spent. (It’s worked out to about 1 cent per use!)

$50 for a bottle that has to be dummy corded to the cage? I’ve got tons of bike parts around here that don’t work well, I guess I should put those up on ebay.

The benefits of the bottle FAR outweigh the 1 con of the bottle.
Do the camelbak’s work well with gorilla cages? Both BTA and BTS? I love the camelbak bottles and keep a stock pile. I’m looking at adding a cage behind my saddle and a new one up front between the bars.
The only problem I’ve had with the camelbaks are mould/gunk buildup in the valve and ON the inner surface of the bottle.
Absolutely disgusting. I’ve soaked it in bicarbonate of soda, dilute bleach and washed my bottles after every ride but there is still a buildup of gunk.
I’ll be switching over to purist bottles this season as there have been a ton of good stuff said about them
