Every time a thread about the Kalibur pops up on here someone mentions stiffness issues and there are always one or two claims that Normann’s ride is a custom. So is there any truth to this rumor?
And if it is a custom, is the geometry the same as standard Kalibur or different? Its been said that Jan does not ride a Giant and Lande does not ride a Trek so are these guys just ridding beefed up frames or are they ridding totally different frames (both stiffer and with different geometry)?
it was my understanding that it’s just a custom paint job but I don’t know. I read an article somewhere about the paint.
Jan rides a Walser. Or he did at least.
Normanns ride, I’m almost positive, is custom.
Kuota would probably offer the paint job if it wasn’t custom.
in 1999,lance won a time trial on a litepseed blade rebadged as a trek
.
I know the paint is custom, curious about the frame.
I know about Jan, that’s not the question.
I think it’s a little off base to assume it’s custom because it has custom paint, lot’s of pros (and age-groupers) have custom paint covering stock frames.

Yes, that’s the worst kept secret in cycling. Now what about Normann?
And if it is a custom, is the geometry the same as standard Kalibur or different?
I’d imagine that Kuota might have modified the layup in order to stiffen the ride, but I doubt if they went to the expense of building another mold just to tweak the ride to Normann’s geometry.
saw an interview with him about his new ride and he said it is exactly the same as the one he had last year but a different paint job
I only know of the guys/gals who ride BMC’s to have customs frames. Belinda Grainger has a custom job, but she only got it after riding a stock pushy for about 3 years.
My point is… i dont think it is a custom.

Hi gang,
its a regular Kuota Kalibur, size LARGE with a custom paint job just for the hawaii race. Call Kuota North America or Paul Thomas and they make you the same paint for a " few " $$$ extra.
Good night
Normann
Normann, is that you???
YES!
Just came back from aparty and its 3:40 am here in good old germany!
QUICK, Slowtwitchers, the IM champion is here, let’s all kiss his ass!

mr. stadler, i am a very curious person so i will ask this:
what is the purpose behind the extra large pulley wheels that you use on the rear derailleur of your race bike?
is it to reduce drivetrain friction by reducing pulley rotations? or is it for another purpose?
what do think is the percent advantage that you gain, or watts saved?
thanks. and fantastic race in HI …

GregX,
it looks better! I cant tell you exactly how much i saved, but it works for me. Maybe its 3 watts maybe 5 watts…! Yes, its to reduce friction and i just tried a new thing to save some seconds on the road which is very important if you win by 70 seconds ![]()
Normann
so it is to reduce drivetrain friction? that makes sense.
some people had the idea that it had something to do with shifting or something, but i could not understand how it could make very much difference in that. but i do understand that every little bit helps when you ride at your speed for 112 miles.
do you know, will the company (or family?) that makes them ever plan to sell a kit to retrofit derailleurs with these pulleys?
thanks again for your time.
Grex,
i have no idea! Right now the guy is doing it only for a few athletes like guys form t-mobile and some other pro teams.
