Let's discuss this mid-foot cleat positioning thing

biomac.biz is a good start as this is where the inventor of the mid-foot cleat shoe sells his wares. he has support from Joe Friel and Sydney-based bikefitterv (and cyclingnews Q&A guy) Steve Hogg. Both guys talk about a large increase in efficiency, although Steve reckons that he has seen a weakening in his “jump” in the sprint at the end of crit races.

I have experimented to the extent that my time cleats are slammed all the way back. I can’t speajk for my efficiency, but it certainly has been better for my knees and I feel markedly stronger on climbs. All this is road and MTB related.

One of Steve Hogg’s issues is the need for a rethink in frame angles to accommodate the new cleat position. Obviously the saddle height has to be reduced and thus there is a need for a longer top tube and lower front end.

What might the implications for TT and triathlon be?

p.s. there are a number of Euro pros using Goetz Heine’s Biomac shoes

I had a thread on the topic not so long ago, some people had good info. I am going to try the speedplay adaptors to mount the cleat midsole this week. I would love slowman’s opinion on the topic.

forgot the link to my thread just in case

Thanks Marisol, I commented there, too. i would also love to hear what Slowman thinks.

I tried this with Nike shoes and my foot would rub on the crank bc of the curve of the shoe and i carved the shoes up perfectly. It is said to save your calves for the run.

already been discussed here too
