Lessing's Ride at LP?

From pictures it appears Lessing rode a Cervelo Soloist Team at LP with drop bars and STI. Did he ride the the Soloist in other races this year or did he ride this for LP because of the hills? Does he prefer the road bike set-up? Just wondering.

Now how could that possibly be. Everybody at Slowtwitch knows that you can’t possibly run afterwards unless you’re on an ultra steep bike.

I’d be curious if he rode in the road position or with the seat turned to the 75/76 degree multi-sport position.

Got any links for the pics?

Did this work? If not, the picture is on Ironmanlive.

That position looks quite slack to me. He could very well be riding in the road geometry configuration on the Soloist. Luc VanLierde won IM Kona on a Giant TCR in a road position. Both bikes are similiar compact geometries and these are both tall long legged guys so it must work for them.

It also looks like he’s on a fairly small frame?

I dunno, think it’s the 58 or 61 he’s on.

Remember he’s around 6’4" (I think).

I recall a photo from Alcatraz where the seatpost was turned to the slacker position.

I’m sure with his ITU experience and the climbing at LP, this was the most comfortable set-up for him.

I recall Ves telling me that he built a very slack Ocotillo-carbo for him last year for his ITU and hillier draft-free races (Alcatraz for one).

Don’t Michelie Jones and Luke Bell do the same - i.e, ride smaller then usual TCR frames to get more of a tri-position? Would this result in some handling compromiss for the average age-grouper?

"Don’t Michelie Jones and Luke Bell do the same - i.e, ride smaller then usual TCR frames "

I read that Michelie does for sure. There’s also a guy I know that rides a medium TCR as his road bike but TT’s on a small frame TCR with Vision Tech’s. Apparently it’s not that uncommon with TT’ers.

How will Slowman ever live this one down!

I remember John Howard showing up at the Spenco 500 on about a 54 cm frame with a 5000 foot seatpost. So, I think this approach works for a lot of lanky guys. Gets them low/aggressive.

Let’s see now, I ride slack, so, uh, no, better not go there…

Is it a 650c bike he is riding?

Couldn’t be. The Soloist only comes in 700c.
