Not sure if this has been posted before but just heard that Leons Tri in NW Indiana is back for June 6-- great lake for swimming and closed roads for biking mostly on a 6 lane highway… should be a fantastic race.
Best run race I have ever done and hands down…if you get busted for drafting on that course you are just an ass hole who WANTS to draft. I’m so psyched it’s back…signing up!
Leon was at our club meeting last month…he’s doing a contest within the race and will have a radar gun during the bike leg. Fastest through ‘the zone’ will win some sort of prize. They’re closing down the highway for this.
Might have to add to my schedule for next season…
I had to bump this again and have to say I’m kind of disappointed Leon’s hasn’t been jumped all over. I hear people complain about drafting, poorly run races and just plain old belly aching of how their race hasn’t lived up to their expectations. I promise you a trip to Leon’s will leave you smiling and counting the days until next year. No…Northern Indiana isn’t a destination spot, but if you want to see how a multisport race SHOULD be run look no further. There is a reason it was a Nat Champ race a couple of times…
The bike course can be quite tough b/c there is nothing to block wind, but damn on the right day it’s a screamer. In '92 it was quite possibly the hardest 40K I have ever done with 25 mph cross winds out and back, but never saw a single wheel sucker…you have to go out of your way to draft on the closed interstate.
Thanks for bringing it back LW!
