Length of Di2 cables required for a BMC TM01

Advice please on the number and length of ew-sd 50 cables needed to wire up my frameset (m/s size) with 6870/1 Di.

I’m assuming I need to buy the internal battery deal groupset? That also comes with the brakes that have shifters attached, which will require more cables I’m assuming?

Thanks in advance.

Here are two links to other BMC TM01 and TM02 builds with DI2.

http://forum.slowtwitch.com/...nt_-_help!_P4348277/ One of the posters used the following for his frame. Should work for a M/S but longer cables can be hidden inside the frame. Short external mount. 1 x 1000 mm (cockpit to BB), 1 x 600 mm (RD to BB) and 2 x 300 mm (FD and battery to BB).

You can use either battery since the frame has a compartment for the standard battery. Pics of the battery compartment can be found in the threads.

The Tri shift / brake levers come with their own etube cables so you won’t need to purchase more. The current Tri set up uses the 5 port junction box and each shifter has its own cables that plug into the junction box. If you buy a kit it should have all of the necessary parts to make it work. It becomes harder if you buy the parts separately.

Does this help?

Thank you very much.

That is exactly what I am after. I appreciate you help in this, if I could I’d ‘buy you a pint’ I would.

Awesome.

I used a slightly different setup then most as I wanted to hide all components in the frame. My junction B is by the battery compartment (inside the frame) and I have two junctions As in the headtube. Cable lengths in M-S:
RD to Junction B - 600mm
FD to Junction B- 300mm
battery (SM-BTR2) to Junction B - 300mm
Junction B to Junction A - 2 X 750mm
4 cables from the SW and ST shifters are integrated and connect to 2 Junction A modules

Many thanks Tiremaniacs, I will have a think about using that system as I would prefer to hide all components.

Regards

Quick question regarding this set up please, which A junctions are you using? I’m assuming a 5-port and a 3-port?

if the question is for me, I am using 2 X SM-JC41 (these are typically refereed to as Junction A) in the headtube and 1 X SM-EW90-B (which is a 5-port Junction B) in the battery compartment

Sorry, I meant are you using a b junction box with 5 ports and two SM JC41 Junction a boxes?

Thanks

1 5-port. I am not sure if the system would work without a 5-port or a 3-port B-Junction. Plus this gives me the ability to easily charge the battery plus program/update the system without the need for the PC interface.

Cheers Tiremaniacs, that has been a great help.

BTW, I have the following left over parts (all brand new):

SM-JC41 4-port Junction A
700 mm wire
SM-EW67A-E Junction B (2 integrated wires and 1 open port)
full box of SM-GM02 oval grommets (4)
1/2 box of SM-GM01 round grommets (2)

Ping me if you are interested
.

Thanks Tiremaniacs,

I’m based in the UK, I don’t know if that would cause a problem with cariage?

Have you a dairamn of the difference in the wiring you did compared to the regular version?

Cheers.

One thing I am sure of. When e-tube project software is started it looks at first for the Junction B module. Once it recognizes it it then asks you to specify what components you have and checks if they are indeed present and accessible. This makes me think that Junction B box is required; or at least it’s required when programming the system. Will the shifting work without it? I don’t know

HI, sorry I didn’t make myself clear and had a predictive text nightmare!

By carriage I was referring to P&P due to the cost getting it to the UK.

I was also trying to ask for a wiring diagram of your set up for a totally internal wiring system using to a junctions, as opposed to the regular system of using 1 a junction? Ha

Chances are that shipping cost to US will not make it worth while. But these are super light items so maybe. Let me know which of my leftover pieces you’d be interested in. Here is the diagram

That’s fantastic, thanks very much.

I’ll let you know if I need any of your spares.

Got my Di2 kit and in the process of assembling it all.

Couple of questions;

  1. regarding the front derailleur, there is a picture of and reference to a grommet that seems to sit in the frame where the wire exits for the FD. Am I meant to have had one of these with the frameset, or does it come desperately?

  2. the cylindrical internal battery, how did you secure it within the seat tube so it doesn’t rattle?

Cheers.

  3. You need to obtain it by yourself - it is the round one
  4. I used the foam wrap from the original bike packaging  Fastened a wire ear in the upper section for removal purposes. Pushed gently from above with some sort of object. Seats solid

Cheers

Hello Tiremaniacs, how did you run the four shifter cables and brake cable down from the top tube? I have a BMC TM02 and it’s a little different than the TM01. Thanks in advance.
