I have periodic leg numbness in the left leg when cycling on a road bike. A search found some references to iliac artery issues causing leg numbness. I’m hoping there is some simpler issue. I’ve really just started riding outside a few weeks ago and have noticed numbness on rides of about 3 hours. On the trainer, I tend to not sit in the saddle as long as I do when riding outside and did not have this problem. My leg numbness is mild and goes away when standing so this is more of an issue for extended flat rides.
Any ideas?
More training and it will go away?
different seat?
Patf-You probably wouldn’t look to the iliac artery as your first explanation of cycling induced numbness. Things to inquire about would be location of numbness, unilateral or bilateral, does it occur any other time? Is there any pain associated with it or change in the skin? In other words, a whole lot more information would yield a whole lot more accurate diagnosis.

Thanks John, Glad to hear iliac artery is not a likely cause as that sounded complicated. I’ve had low back L5-S1 problems for 18 years so it could be that, but this seems more like the leg is going to sleep, not really any pain. So far I’ve only noticed the left leg. I’ll keep an eye on it and try to keep changing my position periodically and see if that helps.
