I’m curious what constitutes “normal” for one’s legs - long femurs, short femurs, et cetera. I have, I believe, short femurs, which results in my road bike being set up with about a 74.5 degree effective seat tube angle.
If you have a tape measure handy (and a few minutes), I’d love to see a bunch of measurements of the following:
Inseam (not for your clothing, but as measured using a thick book between your legs)
Upper leg length (measured from greater trochanter to the lateral epicondyle)
Lower leg length (measured from lateral epicondyle to center of ankle)
Lateral epicondyle is a generic anatomical term (not a specific, unique part of the human anatomy).
An epicondyle is “a rounded projection at the end of a bone, located on or above a condyle and usually serving as a place of attachment for ligaments and tendons.”
I ride a 48cm Felt tri-bike that was professionally fitted by a local tri shop and it fits perfect.
My road bike is a 51cm 1986 GIOS that I bought cuz it was a good deal allmost 20 years ago, I think it fits OK but I have a long body and Gorilla arms as a certain bike fitter says I can’t stand flat footed over it.
I would imagine that a new road bike would be near 48cm.
