Leg measurement survey

I’m curious what constitutes “normal” for one’s legs - long femurs, short femurs, et cetera. I have, I believe, short femurs, which results in my road bike being set up with about a 74.5 degree effective seat tube angle.

If you have a tape measure handy (and a few minutes), I’d love to see a bunch of measurements of the following:

  1. Inseam (not for your clothing, but as measured using a thick book between your legs)
  2. Upper leg length (measured from greater trochanter to the lateral epicondyle)
  3. Lower leg length (measured from lateral epicondyle to center of ankle)

???

The lateral epicondyle is on your arm isn’t it?

Lateral epicondyle is a generic anatomical term (not a specific, unique part of the human anatomy).

An epicondyle is “a rounded projection at the end of a bone, located on or above a condyle and usually serving as a place of attachment for ligaments and tendons.”

Be prepared for some short measurements

Ok I’m bored anyway,

1 Inseam 33 inches or 84cm

2 Upper leg 19.25 inches 49cm

3 Lower leg 15.25 inches 38.5 cm
.

Why?

Sacrificing for science…
Upper 17.38
Lower 18.25
Inseam 32.63

Cuz I’m pretty short

Inseam 27.75 inches

upper leg 14 inches

Lower leg 14.25 inches

Just curious, my inseam measurement is a little less than yours. What size frame is your road bike?

Ah, gotchya.

Here’s mine:

Inseam 34 inches

upper leg 15.75 inches

Lower leg 17.5 inches

38.5 inches inseam

19.75 inches upper

18.5 inches lower
.

I ride a 48cm Felt tri-bike that was professionally fitted by a local tri shop and it fits perfect.

My road bike is a 51cm 1986 GIOS that I bought cuz it was a good deal allmost 20 years ago, I think it fits OK but I have a long body and Gorilla arms as a certain bike fitter says  I can’t stand flat footed over it.

I would imagine that a new road bike would be near 48cm.
