Ledecky gains and loses a record

Gained: AR in the 1650 (scy, of course) going under 15:00 for the first time ever
Lost: 15-16yo 200free record to a girl who went 1:40.9

Yes, a 15-16 year old girl went 1:40.9. Apparently went out in like 24.5x. Maybe I should have posted this one in the “what does it take…” thread?

To put Ledecky’s swim in context:

Erisman, the girl who went 1:40 in the 200 free also won the 500. She went 4:35 and when Lia Thomas won NCAA’s she went 4:34. So 4:35 is really fast.

But to break 15 in a 1650 you have to go 3 4:32’s in a row.

Erisman won the 50, 100, 200 AND 500 at the most competitive 18 and under meet of the year. Insane ability.

@klehner going out 24.5 would be too slow in her 200 free. Her actual splits:

23.46

25.45

26.15

25.97

Total time- 1:40.93

Ledecky’s 1650 time is mind blowing. At the recent 18 and under USA Swimming junior meets (best 18 and unders in the country) only 5 boys swam faster than Ledecky’s. There was the fastest boy missing, but that’s only 6 boys. Mind blowing.
