I just realized that my race wheels have been leaning against the wall since I last raced in mid-July. Since they are tubulars (zipp tires), it’s been a while since there was any air pressure in there. Is that bad for the glue/bond? Should some pressure always be in there? If so, don’t you have to inflate every 3-4 days? Or is it okay to let it ooze out and then refill a couple of days before the race to make sure everything is kosher?
Not sure if there is a reason to this protocol, but it does seem to make sense. It was explained to me by a very good road - racer years ago.
Don’t leave race pressure in tubular tires and don’t let them go completely flat either. Keep some pressure in there( say 50 - 60 PSI), then pump them back up to race pressure when you are going to use them again.
Good info, thanks. So do you pump your up once a week or so? I’m not sure why I didn’t think to do that. I trust they’ll be okay for the race next week.
