Entered a small tri in NH this weekend. First time race for the folks who were organizing it. I came out of the water first then started to hammer the bike. Five miles in I approached an intersection and there is a cop half asleep in his car. I waved straight ahead at him (at about 30 MPH) and he kinda nodded like “yeah its that way”. Well it wasnt. There was actually a hard left turn and I went straight…5.5 miles total ( about 3 out and 3 bike for a total bike of 17.5 miles versus the 12.5 everyone else did.
I would have won my first triathlon by about 3 minutes had I actually looked at the course before hand and not assumed they would tell me were to go.
What can you do, right? It was a nice day though and the wife got 2 overall woman.
Sorry to hear about that Jeff…
However, while I do not mean to be an ass but aren’t you suppose to know the course before (unless the information was not available)?

Feelin’ your pain (though not quite as sharp). I missed the turn in to the bike finish at a local sprint in Houston today. Only cost me 15-20 seconds, but I got 4th in my age group by about 3 seconds. Cost me my podium spot. I was cursing at myself for not paying attention. Had to go back and let the flaggers know I was mad at me, not them!
Sorry you missed out on the win, but it sounds like you have a great attitude about it.
Same thing happened in kansas at flint hills last week. About 7 or 8 of us missed the first turn because no one was standing there. We lost about a mile and half which was a good 4 mins or so for everyone.
I heard other people missed it too but didn’t go quite as far out as we did. What can you do. I just turned it into a training day since i race every couple weeks.
Uh oh…have we been having dumbas$ awards for TX FE lately?
Hmmm . . . are there others with the group who’ve done that recently? Was my first mess up. I knew I was due for something, my bike mount was surprisingly good this time.
