Anyone have any tips for a not super handy guy to fix a leaky (air not water) sliding door? The door to our patio is off of our living/dining room in our condo. It is noticeably colder by the door and the room never heats up even with the heat running full time. Now that it’s in the 20’s daily it’s really noticeable.
I don’t know, replace the screen with glass. Screen is notoriously porous.
We have a storm door, but it doesn’t provide much in terms of insulation while the front door is open.
Thanks for the response. . . .I will clarify. It’s a sliding door with double pained glass and a separate screen door that is also sliding. The leak comes from where the sliding glass door slides.
Sorry, I guess the sarcasm didn’t come through. Sliding doors generally have a height adjustment. Mine has a screw on both ends at the bottom. Check to see if a little adjustment doesn’t help.
I got the sarcasm, it was reminiscent of the screen door on a submarine joke. . . .I will check the screws.
Sliding doors (especially the cheap all-vinyl builder grade ones) typically suck. The seals aren’t great and you have a huge glass panel that lets the head radiate out. Your best bet for this winter is to seal it with packing tape and window film and not open it the rest of the winter. Once the weather turns in the spring, replace it with a center-hinge french door. You can get one for $700-$1k, and it’s an easy install. You can write it off on your taxes as an energy efficient improvement.
I did this for our rear slider and it’s made a huge difference.
Less than a 10 dollar solution. Go to walmart and buy the plastic film for windows and doors. Seal the cracks with the putty first. Huge difference, no lie.
