Leading Heisman contender done

Georgia’s Todd Gurley was just suspended “indefinitely” by HC Mark Richt for NCAA violations. Richt won’t ever win anything, but the guy does not mess around when his players screw up. Manziel told then NCAA to f*ck themselves for the exact same thing and was not punished at all. Rumors are that Gurley has already packed his bags and won’t be returning to Georgia.

The UGA Athletic Department suspended him. Not Mark Richt. Wait until the NCAA finds that Richt knowingly played with an illegal player. Yea, Richt is about as strict on his players as Bobby Bowden was at Free Shoes University (where Richt came from). Nice try.

Is this a serious post? Auburn has two kids on the team right now (including their star QB) who were booted by Richt and a 3rd (Johnathan Taylor) who likely ends up there very soon. Literally the exact same thing happened with Manziel and TAMU told the NCAA to kick rocks. How many times has Nick Saban told the owner of T-town Menswear to stop “associating” with his players, yet has never punished the players? Richt has kicked off more than a handful of his Georgia’s best players in the last 5yrs for violations which wouldn’t even have them sitting a game at some other schools (ie. at least two guys for smoking weed). Yes, they have a ton of arrests, but at Georgia they are kicked off the team. He’s the only coach in the SEC who gives a crap about what these kids do off the field.

I have no connection whatsoever to Georgia or Richt, don’t think he’s a good HC, and don’t like the program as a whole; but he runs the one program where the rules are the rules, regardless of how good you are. If this is Amari Cooper, Nick Marshall, Kenny Hill, Dak Prescott, etc. he isn’t even sitting a quarter while the NCAA falls over itself attempting to investigate.

That’s a laugh. Richt only boots players AFTER they have been arrested. He has no rules, obviously.

The NCAA notified UGA of Gurley’s illegal actions. Richt was the second or third person to know.

So he’s supposed to boot them preemptively? What kind of rules should he impose to prevent people from getting arrested? It’s not that hard to go through college without getting arrested, a large number of people do it without a coach making rules.

Instead of admitting you were wrong, you say this? What about all the other programs who do not boot the players after they have been arrested, often multiple times? At BAMA we have a DE who was kicked out of school for assaulting two people during robberies, but then is let back on the team a year later when their Dline depth isn’t good. At LSU we have multiple instances of serious assault without any repercussions, once in which the coach asked the team if the guy (their best player who already had a serious criminal record) should be allowed to stay on the team. At Auburn we have two guys who were kicked off the Georgia team for stealing from the school and their own teammates, and a 3rd on his way who was arrested for beating up his GF…and then one of these guys (their star QB) has since been arrested while at Auburn and is still on the team (and the officer who arrested him was fired). The Nkemdiche brothers at Ole Miss beat the hell out of a kid at a party, it is covered up, and they are not punished at all. I could write multiple similar instances for literally every single team in the SEC. Richt boots star players for smoking weed. There is a serious disconnect between what is grounds for being kicked off at Georgia and what is allowed everywhere else.

Even if it wasn’t Richt who kicked Gurley off, good for the Georgia athletic department. We’ve seen the exact same situation at multiple other schools recently and they all told the NCAA to f* off and prove it, and did not even sit the player. You have to applaud programs like this or ND (and I HATE Notre Dame) who has booted 5 contributing players for academic integrity issues, who actually hold their athletes to standards.

SEC fans fighting about whose football program is more ethical is like people arguing over which serial killer is the nicest.

.

This is great fun. For every one person you hear about there are probably 100+ doing the similar things. Time for the NCAA to get into this century and allow athlete/students to make $$$$ over the table. BTW there was a great ESPN 30:30 on the Boston College cheating scandal on just recently. If you ever doubt that games can be easily fixed just watch it.

I can’t stand the SEC, I just applaud Georgia for being the only program who has some standards.

Most of you yahoos are not familiar with the program at UGA, like I am. My local newspaper has a UGA beat writer so I know how Mark Richt says one thing and yet his players do the exact opposite. He’s a phoney. Richt talks christian values yet his players are thugs.

Anybody here want to tell me that Todd Gurley was unaware of the autographs for money rule? Yea. Gurley was fully aware of the rule like eveyone else from the Maziel situation yet he went out and broke the rule anyway. Thumbing his nose to the NCAA. And now Mark Richt tell us he “loves” Todd Gurley.

Whatever you think about the rule, it is still there, and coaches should be enforcing the discipline with their Heisman-candidates to avoid breaking the rules. Richt is a phoney.

What on Earth do you keep talking about? The guy actually kicks players off the team for criminal behavior, unlike almost any other head coach. His cast-offs are then welcomed with open arms onto other teams within the conference. Would you like to explain how he is supposed to enforce a rule before he is aware that someone has broken it? As far as I know, he is not the owner of a time machine.

FWIW Gurley is far from the only major college star who has signed autographs which are sold by this very same guy (Jameis Winston and Amari Cooper are two others), yet Gurley is to date the only one who has even been questioned. Some of that obviously has to do with the fact that the guy specifically outed Gurley out of spite, but none of the others schools have even shown an interest in looking into it. If he paid Gurley, a local kid, it would be quite the stretch to suggest he did not pay the other guys as well. If Gurley said he was unaware, he is lying to cover his own ass just like every other dumb kid has in the same situation; that has nothing whatsoever to do with actions by Richt or the Georgia athletic department.

“Richt talks Christian values yet his players are thugs.”
Are you as goofy as you appear to be?

Yea. I am. Arguing with idiots makes me one too. I should know better.

First off, I’m not going to defend Georgia as some kind of paragon of virtue. However, if you think 99% of other schools are enforcing the rules at some significantly higher level, then you’re blind to the state of college athletics.

Second, this kid broke the rules, and the coach apparently suspended him. That IS enforcing the rules. You can’t enforce something preemptively to avoid violations. When an athlete breaks the rule, you punish them, which enforcement discourages future violations.

“Richt talks Christian values yet his players are thugs.”
Are you as goofy as you appear to be?

I could have phrased that better. Apologies.
Do you honestly believe that because a man has Christian values than everyone that surrounds him should/will also be a Christian or espouse Christian values? Secondly, I am assuming that you don’t personally know Coach Richt. How is it that you arrive at the judgement that he isn’t what he claims to be? Unless you’re fairly close to the man, I don’t think its possible for you to be privy to such judgement. Are there certain actions that he has taken that make you think he isn’t a decent man with good morals and values?

He is supposed to set rules and guidelines and enforce discipline in his players to keep them from breaking rules and/or being arrested. You know, like 99% of the other teams do.

OK rules are set. Discipline is enforced (kicking him off the team). I don’t see what your issue is.

As for your 99% comment, that just tells me you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. Every SEC team has had some sort of discipline issue (including Vanderbilt) within the past 5 years (I would say two, but I want to ensure I am correct) and I don’t remember any of them throwing a star player off the team, unlike UGA.

It’s more like 10. Vanderbilt has a pretty fun one on their hands, four Vandy players raped a girl and there are allegations that there was an attempted cover-up. In the past 2yrs, Georgia has dismissed three of their best players (Isaiah Crowell, Josh Harvey-Clemons, now Gurley) and nearly a dozen other contributors. Clemons was booted for failing a pair of drug tests and the charges against Crowell which led to his dismissal were dropped. That is enforcement. Once again, I think Richt sucks as a coach and I have no connection to the SEC; as many here know, I played in the Pac-12 (Pac-10 then) and am obviously a fan of my alma mater.

It’s pretty telling that this same memorabilia dealer has sold a ton of stuff signed by quite a few other star CFB players (including at least 113 items signed by Famous Jameis) and nobody else is even looking into it.

Want to wager that Winston is not even suspended this week, much less thrown off the team, for his little autograph issue that just came out?

Want to wager that Winston is not even suspended this week, much less thrown off the team, for his little autograph issue that just came out?

Nobody is even mentioning it. Amari Cooper was also on that list, as were Braxton Miller, Jadaveon Clowney, and about 100 other major CFB stars in the last few years. I’d be utterly shocked if any other players are even looked into. You don’t pay one guy, but then do not compensate other similar-status stars for signing 100+ pieces, but that is too much common sense and doesn’t fit the agenda.

FWIW, https://www.facebook.com/...7806460862...Winston signed 340+ items for this same authentication company. I’m sure it was out of the goodness of his heart and the FSU compliance department already confirmed he received nothing, so he will not miss any game time.
