It seems from this article there is a significant benifit to being the first out of T1.

Is it a reward for being first out of T1 or an unfair advantage?

Brought this one up yesterday… http://forum.slowtwitch.com/forum/Slowtwitch_Forums_C1/Triathlon_Forum_F1/Article%3A_Does_having_a_lead_moto_provide_drafting_rider_performance%3F_P6381768/#p6381768
Of course there is benefit to lead Moto pacing, but once again people like to inflate how much it is worth and then they lose people like me. If you saved 8 minutes at 20m, think we would have seen some really weird races by now(well maybe the last Ironman in Brazil was close)
It is actually quite simple, just get the shots from behind the riders, or get way out front and use telephoto lenses. I actually like the off to the side and behind shots that a lot of races use, only becomes a problem with bigger groups. Then you just get behind the last rider where you don’t interfere with trailing riders and wait for the eventual breakup to get your solo shots.
In the end it should be the marshals jobs to insure that the lead motor do not interfere too much, cannot leave it to them(camera people) or the athletes to enforce this phenomenon.
