About to start on the Man Cave, small 4th Bedroom 8 feet viewing area. Looking at 32 inch flat screen, do I stick with LCD or pony up for a Plasma?
Plasma is joining HD-DVD and Betamax.
Even Pioneer has abandoned the technology.
+1
LCD is the way to go. period.
I’ll give the opposite view, just for kicks… I was recently in the same position in building a “man cave”. I already had a 42" Toshiba LCD and am happy with it; the kids mainly watch their shows and use the XBOX on it, along with some general non-HD shows. Since I was mainly going to watch movies, however, I decided to go with a Pioneer 50" plasma (the 5020). Since Pioneer has indeed decided to leave the plasma market, you can probably find excellent prices on these panels. The black levels are stunning, as is color fidelity and lack of motion blur. If you’re going to primarily use it for watching movies, especially Blu-ray, then I would definitely suggest doing some comparisons between plasma and LCD. It’s difficult at your local Best Buy or big box store, though, since they usually have the color levels and contrast jacked up to maximum so that everything “pops”.
At your desired 32" screen size, however, the only thing you’re going to find are LCDs, so perhaps the point is moot… is your 8" viewing range the distance between the TV and your couch/seat? If so, I’d suggest that you might be able to step up to a 40" or 42", cost permitting of course; I think a general rule of thumb is between 2 and 2.5 times the screen size is your preferred seating distance.
I also would get Plasma WAY over LCD in a theater room - and did. Whiter whites, blacker blacks, faster images. Plus, I can clean it with Windex and not worry a lick about the screen.
Plasma is a dying technology. The new LCDs with LED backlighting are absolutely stunning. Unfortunately, cost is still an issue but when it arrives in full force, that will be the way to go.
You aren’t going to find a 32" plasma. If you are 8ft from the screen you will want something bigger, much bigger.
And once you get to 42"+ I would go with the plasma. Yes LCDs are taking over the martket, but it isn’t due to pq, its due to cost.

You need to stand a little further away from your TV when watching porn.
