LC Worlds TYR Uniform sizing (Tyr Carbon)

Anyone have any experience with the sizing on the Tyr stuff?

I’m 6’3" 180lbs and will be around 175lbs by the time the race rolls around. I’m going with the ITU suit. The sizing charts are pretty horrible. The only experience I had with Tyr was my first tri suit and it fit like crap.

The newer stuff looks nice, but for the price I wish I could buy Kiwami or Zerod. Oh well…

Regarding the Team suits, can one opt for another brand of suit, i.e Kwami? I know the standard line, TYR is mandatory but what if I already own a Kwami, will I really get DQ’d?

I hope some one can answer that! I know the past pics I’ve seen of T.O. at worlds he was wearing a Tyr and he’s not sponsored by them. Zerod has one the looks very similar. Also the sizing for tall skinny guys is complete crap. The chart on TYR’s site shows for my height I have to wear a 36-40 waist… Um. Really? To get a proper fitting one I think it is going to be too short in the length.

You can wear whatever you want as long as it conforms to ITU’s uniform rules.

Thanks for the link, do you know the details of the “color” rule? Meaning if the official uniform of Team USA is the TYR and the colors of that uniform is red, white and blue then if an athlete choses another brand must it also be red, white and blue?

The TYR Carbon stuff is much, much better than the kits from 2010. The leg grippers don’t constrict like before and the chest isn’t so constricting. I’m 5’10.5 and 150 lbs and the M size is great for me.

Also the uniform requirements to use TRY are from TEAM USA and usa triathlon, not from ITU. If your uniform complies with ITU rules ITU won’t disqualify you (beware the section on color and look and pre-approval) but you will probably get in trouble with USAT and they can pull you from the race if they want to.

Good Luck,
Joel

Me: 6’1", 37.5 chest, 30.5 waist, 155lbs. I tried on the small and medium TYR carbon suits. I choose the medium. Comparing the two, the chest felt surprisingly similar, the length of the body and the length of the legs were somewhat shorter on the small, and the waist was notable slimmer on the small. I could have worn both, but I was mostly concerned about the chest being adequately tight for a non-wetsuit swim, which the medium was. And the medium felt more comfortable through the legs and waist.

We at Kiwami made a number of suits for athletes at LC Worlds that were not happy with the USAT chosen suit. The comments we received back from those athletes was extremely complimentary. We can definitely supply you with a great looking and beautifully performing suit. Contact us by e-mail or phone and we’d be happy to help.

This is what USA Triathlon has to say,

Please be aware that all athletes who plan to represent Team USA at a 2011 ITU World Championship event are required to wear a TYR uniform, per USA Triathlon’s official sponsorship agreement with TYR. Athletes will not be permitted to wear any other brand of uniform while representing Team USA and USA Triathlon.
