Lbs--slightly annoyed

If they didn’t do a good job on something as simple as a seat post, they probably didn’t do a good job on the more complicated stuff.

But, then again, I know of a lot of seatposts that slip and slide quite freely at their recommended torquing, so it’s very possible that they used too much paste.

Let him know nicely and nonconfrontational like when you bring bike in for tune up or are in there for another reason. Bet he is as upset as you or acts like it.

got a brand new bike (all the parts, it wasn’t built up). took it to local bike shop (that sponsors my women’s cycling team) for them to build it. spent the $$$…

second ride in, seat wobbled side to side. had to turn around–you can’t ride that long if your saddle’s moving back and forth!!!

would you complain or just let it go? i don’t want $$$ but kind of want the mechanic to know that he didn’t do the best job??? am I being petty?
I’m puzzled, are you saying the seat wasn’t tight and the clamp needed tightning? Strange it would go side to side and not slip down.

Anyway, if that is the case

  1. Far out, if that’s all that was wrong, get off, use allen key from tool kit, tighten, get back on and ride.
  2. If you didn’t take an allen key with you, go home, tighten, go back out and ride.

You really haven’t got much to complain about one bolt being a little loose (if this is the case cause you’re not that clear in your explanation).

I’d think you were a pain in the ass if you made anything more then a casual comment next time you were in the shop…

Especially as it was second ride in. That means something has loosened after riding - which happens, things settle in etc…

Since you’re on a women’s cycling team, I am very confused. Here is my personal response:

If this is all because the saddle was wiggling side to side because the seatpost binder wasn’t tightened–

  1. You should ride with a multi-tool and be able to fix it in 2 seconds. HTFU.

  2. If you’re complaining that the mechanic did a poor job based on the seatpost binder not being assembled, then I would consider this to be very petty. If there was a problem with the BB or derailleur adjustment, that’s quite a different story.

I’m not trying to be inconsiderate of your situation, but I would let it go. It pays to have your mechanics like you, as they’ll likely go the extra mile in future service.

You’re not inconsiderate, you’re entirely right.

not to take the side of the LBS…BUT, ARE YOU TOO F-ING LAZY TO TIGHTEN YOUR SEAT IF IT COMES LOOSE??? seriously, people like you make me sick, hey…lets just bring our 5k road bike into the shop and complain about how we missed a ride because the seat was to low, hugh, fore, aft, etc.

you own a high end bike…and skip rides because a bolt is loose…hmmmmm

take the bike in and bring it up…the crew will make fun of you every time you show your face in the store for the rest of your life…trust me I worked in a shop.

That’s what I figured when my seat came loose after a fitting. I was more comfortable on my bike than I’d ever been so I was really pleased with the fit. I didn’t want to complain to the shop guys because I feel like I should have had my tools, and I probably should have checked the bolt knowing it had been adjusted several times. It not being tight when I left the shop falls under the heading of “shit happens”. To me the bolt not being tight when I’m out on a ride was on me for not checking my equipment.

well if you are going to skip a ride for something so simple, what are you going to do at your net race? DNF like an ST pro?
