LBS and group rides north side of Denver

I just relocated to the Broomfield area and have yet to find an LBS. Any recommendations?

Also, any suggestions for some group rides in the Broomfield area? I live around 120th and Sheridan and would like to be able to ride to the start.

I also work in Boulder, so are there any lunch time group rides?

nah, nothing much triathlon or cycling related going on in Boulder.

fine smart ass. let me rephrase that:

Can anyone give me some info or point me towards group rides (especially lunch time) in Boulder?

Where do you work in Boulder?

UCAR/NCAR

I’m mostly based out of the Foothills lab but will be spending some time out on the mesa
.

How fast do you ride?

currently not very. I’ve been off the bike for a few months and have only been above 1000’ for a week. Last summer, ‘average’ pace was 18-19 and holding 20ish+ was pretty easy.

In the winter the group rides during the week can be hit and miss due to weather and lack of daylight after work. Weekend rides are more regular this time of year though. You might stop by Louisville Cyclery as I know they have some rides. Cutting edge sports might too but I’m not sure.

Just go west on 120th then work your way north on the frontage road to the east of highway 36 to 96th. 96th is your gatway to cycling bliss.

thanks, I’ll look into those.

Once I get on 96th, do I just keep heading north? what are some good roads to take from there?

One last question. I’m only going to be in town through June. Is it worth joining the Boulder Tri Club for that short period of time?

96th to Valmont, Lookout, Niwot Road, etc. Don’t stay on it in Longmont - it becomes Hover Road and has a lot of traffic. You can get over onto 75th and head up to Carter Lake. In nice weather get up into the hills, like Jamestown and Ward. Mapmyride.com has a bunch of rides - do a search.

I wouldn’t join the BTC for such a short period of time. As another said, check out Louisville Cyclery’s website for group rides, maybe get a 20 punch card for the Boulder Aquatic Masters swim workouts, and enjoy the great trail running around, like Teller Farms, Coal Creek Trail, Mesa Trail, etc., etc.

Yeah, just keep heading north all the way to to south of longmont (96th turns into 95th).
Then from 95th you can turn west on Niwot Road or most roads that go west up to that point).
Then you can keep going north on 75th to Nelson Road and turn west for a while and head back south on most roads like 63rd or go west all the way until it ends and head south on Foothills.
Once you get back to Arapahoe Rd I typically head south on Cherryvale (between 55th and 63rd on Arapahoe).
Take Cherryvale down to Marshall Dr and head east.
Once you get to McCaslin you can cross 36 there (there is a bike lane on the bridge over the highway) to get back to the east side of the highway and work your way home. There is also a secret tunnel under 36 here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ie=UTF8&ll=39.921835,-105.105877&spn=0.001775,0.002384&t=h&z=19

If you want to meet a bunch of folks, sure join the club. Other than that you will meet people if you join masters or find some group rides. Too bad you can stay through July as you could hit the Boulder Peak. Registration is open right now and it fills up pretty quick. Quite a few STers do it each year. Great race.

Sorry. I had to run to a meeting, and didn’t have time to respond. Looks like Jtaylor got you set up, though. Weekday rides can, indeed, be spotty due to weather. In addition to Louisville Cyclery, you might look into the Rocky Mtn. Cycling Club (http://www.rmccrides.com/). You won’t be able to ride to all starting locations, as they will start their rides at one of many different locations across the front range, but they have a couple of rides that start up north that may be within range. There are various degrees of experience, so you won’t get left behind, and you can choose from a couple of different distances (longer or shorter) at each ride. Plus, they have rides on both Sat and Sun every weekend. You don’t have to be a member to ride initially (although they ask that you join if you plan to ride more than 3 times with them. It’s only $25 for a yearly membership).

FYI, the RMCC website indicates that every Saturday this winter they are riding from their Northglenn starting point @ 10:45 from the Park 'n Ride at 120th and Huron. That’s easily within riding distance from 120th and Sheridan.

Steve, are you doing the Peak this year?

I am. I wouldn’t miss it. I kept telling myself last year that now that I work up near the Res, I’ll ride Old Stage Hill at least once a week. I didn’t do it last year (in fact, my riding was really spotty last year) and I killed myself getting up that climb to the tune of a really crappy 10K by anyone’s standards. I’m hitting it hard this year, and really want to do well this time. But my A-Race is the Long Course. I’ve signed up for it the last 4 years and have either DNF’ed or DNS’ed it for one reason or another. This year, Danno will be in town that weekend, and we’ll be doing the race together, so I HAVE to be in shape to kick his ass.

Cool that’s great. I’m looking forward to having a good season this year as well. I rode today in shorts and a short sleeve jersey for the first time in a while. This weather is great.

Alas! I’m stuck indoors. I was on the trainer at O-dark-thirty, so at least I got the ride in. Maybe we’ll get lucky and have more these types of days throughout the winter months. I’d like to get out and ride Old stage a few times before April. I’m heading down to Texas to do my first ever stage race at Fort Davis with Danno. I’ve been talking some smack, and I hear there’s some really tough grades there. It would be nice to ride Old Stage before then to get used to that again. Can’t let a flatlander take me on the hills.

Just so you know, they are closing the bridge on Cherryvale that crosses US36 to widen it from February to April.
