Lawrence Velodrome in Lawrence, Kansas - a grass track

Gravel bike. Road bike. Won’t ride on the road these days? Would you, could you ride on a grass track?

IMO besides track bikes, allow gravel and road bikes until people decide to get their track bikes.

Or is this too much like doing laps in the pool? It was fun when I was in college.

I would love to try this!

Unless it’s banked, I don’t get the appeal.

I won’t knock what I haven’t tried.

I’d try it. If you can average 15 to 17mph on a reasonably technical cross course I don’t see how this wouldn’t work.

Maybe different slower speeds due to crr makes it work fine.

There’s a field above my house in a park this could work in.

Here in Finland we have an indoor running track that the cycling clubs use for training in winter. Crr is heavy but it is fun for a couple of hours with a few of us.

Unless it’s banked, I don’t get the appeal.

Seems like this Pan Champ found it appealing. Sounds like he has kinds of bad habits that would get a bike dirty though.

Keeps him off the tarmac/roads.

I would love to try this!

Here’s another story on it.

Besides being safer than the roads, it could really help with bike handing skills like MTB/gravel. This might also work well in sandy soils like Florida or where ever one could get get a good pack and drainage.

Pretty excited about this for kids. I could see a parent putting their kids on a grass track where the parents can also see the kids riding.

Might even get a used track bike myself if there was one of these within a half hour. Hopefully we could get these every 60 miles across the country lol. Could be a good use of vacant land waiting to be developed.
