Late April/May Half Ironman Races

Hey All - I’m looking for a half ironman race to do late in April (>21st) or May.

I’m not so interested in NOLA 70.3 after the course changes.

Would appreciate any thoughts on the new Florida 70.3 course.

Are there any non-ironman half’s that time of year that are must do events?

Other criteria would be somewhere in North America would be preferred and something with a relatively flat/rolling course.
Thanks!

Rev3 Knoxville is May 5th, and they have a half. I did the Olympic last year and loved everything about it.

White Lake Half (if you like flat) - May 5th.

I have done a lot of racing in the central FL topo. Haines City…um…don’t go there for anything to do. I’m sure the course is fine, but don’t bring the family unless you want them to be bored out of their minds;) It’s not far from a sprint series I did years ago near Howey in the Hills(not a typo!). If you could swing Mother’s Day weekend then Gulf Coast is a race that won’t disappoint IMO. My fav race ever to date. And if you want fast then you will PR in Panama City as it’s a freaking drag strip.

Gulf Coast Triatlon. Hands down better race than NO 70.3.

While not a half the IOS100 in Washington, NC is cool. 2 mile swim, 88 mile bike 10 mile run www.fsseries.com.

Setup Events runs a 70.3 at Lake Anna in Virginia. Date is May 12 (mothers day). Tough swim, fast bike and run. It’s the Kinetic Half

I did NOLA and the Gulf Coast Tri 70.3 in Panama City Beach last year. I am returning to the Gulf Coast Tri this year. Great race, flat course, and a great venue. Lots of trophies and great awards party afterwards.
Hotels are cheap and you can register the day before the event.
The Gulf food is awesome. Checkout the Boat Yard at the marina and FireFly.

Good to hear. Have been wanting to do a Rev3 race for a while and the Knoxville half will be my first Rev3 race. I had a couple friends that did the oly last year and really liked it.

How would you describe the course?

rolly, with a few ‘kickers’

i remember going up one hill and seeing two folks walking (oly folks) their bikes. not a monster, but just some perspective.

the run is along a paved trail in a park of some sort so shade is nice and on some closed roads. the kicker on this run course comes late in mile 12 when you turn left AWAY from the finish line just to climb this big hill. EVIL!

great time!

Nice. As a 3x savage man half participant the last 3 years most kickers seem tame in comparison.

Sounds great, can’t wait.

TryCharleston (SC) in late April. The race is fine (nothing special, but well run), and Charleston is a great city and the weather should be good.

The Rev3 in Knoxville is a very good race that has an Olympic and a Half
.

Thanks for the tip. I’m leaning toward Rev3 Knoxville. Been wanting to try a Rev3 race, sounds like a cool city and course.

Anyone know if/when Rev3 races typically sell out?

That one hasn’t sold out in the past, registration looks good right now for staying open through April or so.
